Scott Ian's Effects Pedals
Ian’s amp setup was also very simple: ’82 Marshall JCM 800s with a TC Electronic Booster Distortion pedal that he only used as a boost to drive distortion on the amp. Benante used the same model TC Booster when playing and writing new songs, as well. This setup was used on the first S.O.D album along with a 1981 Gibson Flying V and a 1982 Jackson Randy Rhoads guitar.
At 0:20 in this video, Scott Ian says, "Usually I use this guy, the full sized one with the tone controls...which enables you to hone in on certain frequencies," about the Spark Booster.
“This is in all the time, the CAE Boost,” Anthrax’s Scott Ian says at (11:39). “This just gives it a little extra push that I need to get the edge and the chunk and the gain that i need out of it. And my main rhythm tone all night, this boost side stays on all the time.”

“I wasn’t really running much in terms of pedals, it was mainly rhythm tones from the amp. I did use one of those Gamechanger Audio Plasma [distortion] pedals for crazy noises throughout the show, plus my EVH Phase 90 and maybe some delay for the clean tones on Summer Breeze by Seals And Crofts. "
The MXR EVH Phaser can be spotted on Scott Ian’s pedal board at (12:15) in this Premier Guitar video.
Developed in collaboration with Ian.
Scott wanted an all-in-one go-to pedal, something that he could use as his amp tone on fly rigs -- or just plugging the pedal in front of an overdriven amp so the pedal affects mainly the dynamic response of his tone, the tightness of the bass, and the attack for palm-muting.
Scott Ian of Anthrax swears by the Dunlop MC404 Wah pedal, saying “it just sounds great. It's got a huge amount of throw. I feel like it really digs in when you step on that thing. You really dig in with it. And just the tone of it is great. And it's got a boost as well which kicks in which is nice for the solo. I just have that boost turned on. But it's all about the tone. It's just based on it, it just sounds great,” (15:26).
Scott Ian demos the TC Electronic Spark Mini Booster in this video. He says, "It just gives the whole thing a nice push, kind of rounds it out and makes it smoother," around 1:15.

"My introduction to Fortin was being kicked in the face by the tone of my new prototype signature amp. Holy crap what an amp! Now Zuul! This Fortin pedal is the best I’ve ever used. Mike you are a wizard. An evil wizard.”
