TC Electronic Spark Booster Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The TC Electronic Spark Booster is a versatile pedal that shines with its ability to enhance tone while offering extensive EQ control. With four knobs and a 3-way frequency switch, it provides a broad range of sonic possibilities from transparent boosts to dynamic crunch. Ideal for single-coils and adding heft to humbuckers, it complements various setups, particularly when paired with naturally gain-heavy amps. The only downside is potential muddiness in fat mode with humbuckers. Overall, it's a flexible and powerful tool for those seeking a multi-functional booster at an affordable price.

Pedal Review: TC Electronic Spark Booster | Delicious Audio

The TC Electronic Spark Booster is a compact yet versatile pedal that goes beyond just clean boosting. Praised for its solid build and functionality, it offers three EQ modes—fat, clean, and mid boost—that cater to diverse tonal needs. The reviewer highlights its ability to add unique grit and complexity to rhythm guitars, making it a valuable tool for both recording and live setups. The pedal that is always on

I discovered this amazing Boost pedal a few years back and it is the one pedal that is always engaged the EQ control and warmth and tons of boost it can add is remarkable. It breathes life into every pedal before and after it it turns the lightest dirt pedals into monsters of tone. a lot of bang for not much bucks. Definitely worth checking out

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Everything turned up except treble about half to quarter right.

Secret sauce

I once read someone saying that the Spark was their always-on secret sauce to their tone. I had to get one for myself, and when I found a great deal on a returned item at Amazon, I grabbed it. I am talking, like, 50% off. It looked unused and I haven't found any malfunction with it. I suspect someone just wasn't happy with what it does. But I am.

At the right settings, this adds a sparkle and grunt - life, even - to my guitar tone. It keeps it clean, but lives up to the booster designation. I wasn't sure if I wanted it pre- or post-dirt, but it was easy to slot it onto my board where the Hypergravity once was, post-dirt. At the moment, I am happy with it there. I'm mostly using the EHX OD Glove into it, and I had to flip my settings on it - more volume and less gain, as compared to before. This combo is just so good with my Jazzmasters. With the Rat, it also sounds great. I'm really happy with it, and do believe it is a secret sauce. For everyone? Maybe not. But definitely for me.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Glove or Rat into Spark into Cloudburst, split out to Marshall and Roland amps.

Just a great and versatile pedal

It seems to me that the Spark Booster is underrated since it is constantly for sale second hand. To my use and ears the Spark Booster is a perfect tailoring device for my pedal board. It is stupid simple to dial in with a boosting and cutting eq-section. With the mid switch engaged it is a ts and klon-killer and sits perfect in a band mix. While playing alone I like to use the clean setting which feels very responsive and full. The Fat-setting is great for thin sounding single coil guitars and basses. The added gain knob adds a really great and grunty amp like gain structure. It just sounds open and full. So it is not just a clean boost, but a fantastic overdrive as well.

It's The Booster

It's cheap, versatile and stable. I basically use it anywhere, whenever I need a preamp, or booster, or equalizer, or overdrive, I use it and I've never been disappointed.

christos_zonios

Lovely booster pedal

This pedal will give you far more options than most booster pedals, and might even suit you as an overdrive pedal as well, in Fat or Mid mode. Does it's job exceptionally well, the only thing I'd like is an option to have overdrive like in the Mid or Fat modes but without the EQ change. The Clean setting is incredible for both cleans and boosting an overdriven amp, while the Fat setting will, well, fatten up your sound (great with single coils). The Mid setting is great for leads, will help you cut through the mix and if you choose to, it will give you enough gain to sustain your notes forever.

robin_buckingham

Does What It Says +

Is says boost. But you can actually get some overdrive out of this as well. It has a couple of settings. I personally use it to anger the input of my tube amps. A little hotter, a little fatter sound. Live it would be a great boost. And in conjunction with the other TC drive pedals this rounds out the family without adding unwanted noice.

That is my thing with TC, they are not noisy pedals. When I need a specific tone, I have pedals just for that, Tube Screamer, Rat, DOD OD from the early 80s, etc. But when you just need a good rick sound that is not the #1 identifying sound, and you are there to give the best tones for the song & mostly the singer, all of these basic TC pedals are a good call.

Great booster

I use the spark first in the chain in case a guitar needs a bit of a push going into the rest of my board. It helps me keep the volumes between my guitars fairly consistent.

daniel_molnar

Amazing 10/10

If you want a booster get this. Can do everything you want from a booster (like the overpriced EP Booster) and even more (EQ, 3 different modes [fat, clean, mid]). Can't ask for more on a booster, fits all your needs.

fuzz booster

Got this mainly to boost my buffalo fx evolution. Even by itself is a clean tone replacement and helps eq my guitar. Feel like I haven't totally utilized it yet.

Boost to the max

Super versatile boost pedal that acts as my overdrive as well. Pairs great with my clean amp
