  • Older Rogers kits include machined wing nuts, which are more durable compared to the forged ones from the 70s that tend to crack under torque.

    Source
  • The "bread and butter" lugs from older Rogers kits often break due to poor design, rust, and tension release during head changes.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Restoring rusted hardware involves soaking in apple cider vinegar, followed by fine steel wool to avoid deep scratches, and using Novus #2 for wrap shine.

    Source
  • Some 60s Rogers kits have grey-painted interiors, indicating a Cleveland era model, which are desirable and can affect pricing.

    Source

  • The Rogers Holiday Model from the 60s often has a "Champagne Sparkle" wrap and may include unique hardware like bass drum cymbal mounts preferred by players for stability.

    Source
  • Aquarian American Vintage heads are used for a vintage feel, while Evans Calf tone EMAD heads provide bass drum depth.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Silent Stroke heads are nearly silent, making them ideal for apartment use, while L80 cymbals reduce volume significantly but may still be audible to neighbors.

    Source

  • Owners frequently veneer their Rogers shells and replace hardware with options like single point lugs from Drum Factory Direct for customization.

    Source

The Rogers Holiday Set — Not So Modern Drummer

notsomoderndrummer.com

The Rogers 1960s Holiday Gold Sparkle Drum Kit is a stunning piece of vintage craftsmanship, celebrated for its exceptional maple shells and iconic Beavertail lugs that enhance playability. While the vibrant gold sparkle finish certainly turns heads, the historical context adds to its allure, rooted in a rich lineage of quality drum-making. However, potential buyers should note that some models may have issues, such as cracked lugs in earlier designs. Overall, this kit is a collector's dream with a great sound, but do your homework to ensure you're getting a well-maintained set.

In a photo by Peter Hutchins on Flickr, taken during HAIM's 2021 performance at the All Things Go music festival, Danielle Haim is seen playing a Rogers double bass drum kit. While the drum kit in the photo is a white model, it closely resembles the 1970-72 Rogers Double Bass Drum Set. Additionally, Danielle is using Remo drum heads and at least one Zildjian cymbal, as visible in the image linked here: https://tinyurl.com/2p8rdp8z. In early Mutemath shows, Darren would play this kit which can be seen in the photo. From around 2006 to early 2007, he only used the bass drum from this set and switched the toms out with Slingerland toms instead of the Rogers. Note that it might actually be a "champagne sparkle" rather than a "gold sparkle" Rogers kit as they both have similar finishes.
