Description

The Vintage CE-2 Chorus from the 80ties also called "Black Label"

The Boss CE-2 Chorus Japan Black Label is one of the earliest and most sought-after versions of the classic compact chorus pedal. Produced in Japan in the early 1980s, it’s known for its warm, lush analog modulation and simple two-knob control layout (Rate and Depth). These early units helped define the iconic ‘80s chorus sound, with a rich, slightly dark character and strong mid presence. Built with high-quality components like the MN3007 BBD chip, they’re prized for their durability and musical response. Today, the Black Label versions are considered collectible due to their age, tone, and “Made in Japan” build quality.

How the Boss CE-2 Chorus pedal took over the world | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The Boss CE-2 Chorus Japan Black Label pedal is revered for its robust build, straightforward controls, and lush tones that became synonymous with the '80s sound. Its simplicity—just Rate and Depth knobs—makes it user-friendly while delivering rich, warm choruses that cut through the mix, unlike other pedals that scoop the mids. It's also versatile, complementing both clean and overdriven tones, and even works well with bass. Vintage units are prized, especially those with the MN3007 BBD chip for lower noise. While vintage models fetch high prices, the modern CE-2W Waza Craft offers compelling alternatives with added features.
