CONS

  • Requires careful handling due to plastic body

  • Battery change process is cumbersome and requires tools

  • Knobs need to be turned past halfway for noticeable effect

  • Plastic shell and footswitch may not inspire confidence in durability

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer UC200 Ultra Chorus.

Features and functionality

  • The rate knob on the Behringer UC200 has an extra 5-10% range compared to the Boss CH-1, allowing for unique sci-fi tones.

    Source
  • The UC200 reportedly doesn't fully replicate the Boss Dimension C sound, but offers a solid stereo analog chorus option for the price.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The UC200 is a clone of the Boss CH-1, but offers slightly more versatility in sound due to the extended rate range.

    Source
  • The UC200 is compared favorably to the Boss CH-1, noted for similar sound but differences in build durability due to plastic casing.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some users report that the jack on the UC200 can become loose, causing cables to fall out easily unless handled carefully.

    Source
  • Other users note that newer models have very tight jacks, making it difficult to plug in certain cables, particularly older Planet Waves cables.

    Source
  • Some users report the plastic switch can wear out, requiring foot adjustments to engage properly after extended use.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Maxing out the rate knob can quickly shift the pedal's sound from traditional chorus to an "alien voice" effect, offering unexpected versatility.

    Source
  • Despite being plastic, the UC200 is considered suitable for home use and local gigs, but not ideal for rigorous touring.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Behringer pedals, despite a plastic shell, are praised for quality, comparable to more expensive brands due to their use of bucket brigade chips.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Owners have modified UC200 pedals to enhance sound, such as adding slow rate mods, improving versatility beyond factory settings.

    Source

User experience

  • Some find the chorus effect not "wet" enough compared to alternatives like the MXR Analog Chorus, suggesting it may not suit all preferences.

Featuring CoolAudio MN3207 BBD!

That's right! It's a clone of the CH1, but it's still analog! The current CH1 uses a digital processor to generate the delay for the Chorus, which is fine for most part EXCEPT if you're planning on running it on a 9V battery. A digital circuit will draw much more current than an analog circuit. The UC200 employs a good old BBD chip (Coolaudio VD3207, at this price point it's a steal), so battery operation lasts MUCH longer.

Regarding sound, no surprise since it's a clone. Sounds great as the early analog CH1! It distorts a bit with EQ and level set to max, but nothing crazy. Side by side my 1989 CE2 blows this UC200 out of the water (thankfully!), but for the price the UC200 is worth checking out if you want a pedal that you mind breaking or loosing.

Only con is the plastic shell and footswitch that don't inspire much confidence, I would happily pay extra for a proper metallic casing. But tone-wise they are awesome.

it's a bit similar to the super chorus in sound, it's neat, cannot complain at all

i had this awhile ago along with my other behringers at the time and it's been pretty good to me and is a nice addition to my collection, along with it, i do like how wacky i can get with the settings much like the super chorus, i feel as if behringer is a pretty neat and cheaper alternative to boss pedals which is why i actually got behringers to start off with, i like the company overall, and i can't complain about them at all

(all the gear snobs can gnaw at my flesh and bones all they want.)

Preferred Settings + Usage:

it's a pretty neat cheap clone of a super chorus and i reccomend any setting as you may with a chorus, depends on preference, as for me? again, i'm still just trying to find the right sound.

Come as you are

Very good chorus pedal! I use it a lot and this is one of the best chorus pedals that I’ve ever used, it’s good for nirvana songs and other stuff!!!

Fantastic clone

This is a really great chorus pedal. I bought it thanks to the infamous JHS video and once you dial the right settings (level not so high as you might think), it gives you that sparkly chorus 80's sound. Plastic enclosure is solid - what a surprise. The knobs are quite tight when you try to turn them, but that's a good thing. in my opinion.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

Level - 12:30-13:00 Tone - 13:00 Rate - 11:00 Depth - 14:30

Reasonable Chorus

I wanted to try out chorus effect, but not spend too much money on one. So I got this used for 10 bucks or so and it did what a chorus should do. I sold it and got me a CH-1 from Boss which was a bit more expensive but seems more durable and has a slightly warmer sound imho. But for starting with modulation effects, this is a good deal.

kimba_nevile

Great!

Nice smooth chorus. Easy to use. I like using it in mono mode instead of stereo. it just seems to sound better that way but that is my opinion. Really helped tame the Minibrute.
