Description

Introducing the Walrus Audio Julia V2, an analog chorus/vibrato pedal designed to inspire musicians to create a variety of lush modulation effects. This pedal's versatility is its defining characteristic, offering you the full-spectrum from barely-there shimmers to full-blown warbling detune.

The Julia V2 is not just about delivering analog chorus and vibrato effects; it's about giving you full control over your modulation. With rate, depth, and lag controls, you can customize your sound and create unique, organic tones. The LFO wave shape switch allows you to toggle between sine or triangle waveforms, opening up a whole new world of sonic possibilities.

The stylish design, featuring artwork from designer Adam Forster, is more than just eye candy. With high-quality components on a PCB board and a powder-coated enclosure, this pedal is built to last and inspire for years to come.

Chorus and Vibrato Creative Machine

Walrus Audio has built a reputation for delivering top-notch effects pedals that cater to both beginners and seasoned pros alike. The build quality is nothing short of exceptional, embodying that Made in USA reliability we’ve come to trust. The Julia V2 is robust, with an eye-catching design that suggests a lot of thought went into both its form and function. The mesmerizing artwork is a visual treat, making it not just a sonic, but also an aesthetic addition to any pedalboard.

Diving into the controls, the Julia V2 offers an impressive range of options. It features rate, depth, and lag knobs, along with a d-c-v knob for dry, chorus, or vibrato blend, and a sine/square wave toggle. The secondary LED pulses in time with the effect rate setting, which is a fantastic visual cue for live performances. However, we did find the constant flashing of the tempo LED a bit distracting when the pedal wasn’t in use—a minor gripe, but worth mentioning.

Sound-wise, this pedal is a powerhouse. The Julia V2 delivers everything from subtle, lush choruses to extreme, heavily modulated sounds. The lag knob is particularly useful, allowing us to tweak the center of the effected signal for unique sound adjustments. The chorus and vibrato options are both distinct and versatile, offering a variety of tones that are rich, musical, and never overly synthetic. In our tests, we found the pedal complemented our existing setup beautifully, adding a layer of depth and character that some of our other chorus pedals lacked.

That being said, the complexity of the Julia V2 might not be for everyone. If you’re someone who prefers a more straightforward experience, this pedal might feel a bit overwhelming. The array of controls can be a double-edged sword; while they offer unparalleled versatility, they also require a bit of a learning curve to master fully.

The Walrus Audio Julia V2 is a fantastic investment for musicians who crave versatility and high-quality sound in their chorus and vibrato effects. Its build quality, aesthetic appeal, and sonic capabilities make it a standout choice. For us, the Julia V2 is worth every penny, offering a range of musical possibilities that justify its somewhat steep price tag.

Critic Reviews

Review: Walrus Audio Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato V2

guitar.com

The Walrus Audio Julia V2 excels in delivering rich, organic chorus and vibrato effects, impressing even skeptics of the genre. With top-notch build quality and versatile controls—including a unique lag knob for experimenting with textures—this pedal is a standout in a crowded market. While the triangle waveform leans towards the more dramatic side and can push boundaries into less usable territory, the overall sound remains musically satisfying. However, some players may find certain extreme settings overwhelming. Ultimately, the Julia V2 is a worthy addition for those seeking depth and shimmer in their tone, despite a few quirks that might not suit everyone.

It does what she's made to do it

Walrus Julia It's an excellent boutique chorus, do it what it promises, amazing vibrato features, good quality, beatiful design, just be careful in what kind of pedalboard are you building, this version is mono.

Maybe there are people, who like or don't mind that flangy/phasy chorus tone, but not me. It's tweakable, though, and has perfect vibrato mode!

In this shot of Emily Wolfe's pedalboard the Walrus Audio Julia V2 and the Walrus Audio D1 Delay are featured. The pedal was also mentioned in 2021 Premier Guitar interview.

She says she never really liked using chorus until she stumbled across the Walrus Audio Julia Analog Chorus/Vibrato pedal. "It's pretty inspiring. 'My Lungs Give Out' was pretty much because of that pedal," she shares. "It kind of wrote the intro for me." The song's gentle vocal and subtle use of the pedal in the intro, followed by her singing paralleled by quietly distorted guitar in the pre-chorus, calls St. Vincent to mind. That's a comparison Wolfe responds to favorably.
