Mods and upgrades

  • Seymour Duncan pickups and a Quan Badass bridge are popular upgrades for improved tone and sustain.

    Source
  • Lollipop tuners and stacked knobs are used to enhance tuning stability and control, alongside Yosemite pickups for a balanced tone.

Fender Player Jaguar Bass Review | Performer Mag

performermag.com

Fender’s Player Jaguar Bass strikes a compelling balance between classic aesthetics and modern playability. The P&J pickup configuration delivers a rich, articulate sound, while the comfortable offset body ensures it feels right at home in any musical setting. The sleek design, available in eye-catching colors like "tidepool," adds flair without sacrificing function. However, the review does not highlight any notable drawbacks, making it feel a bit one-sided. Players seeking a versatile bass that combines vintage charm with contemporary comfort will find this instrument hard to resist, but those looking for a critical analysis of its shortcomings might be left wanting.

Review: Fender Player Jaguar Bass

mixdownmag.com.au

Fender's Player Jaguar Bass is a stylish blend of classic designs that delivers both comfort and versatility. With a solid alder body and a well-shaped Modern “C” neck, it feels great in hand, allowing for smooth playability. The 'PJ' pickup setup provides a rich, dynamic tone range, easily adapted for various genres. However, while its aesthetics and playability shine, some players might find the tonal options slightly less distinctive compared to standalone models. Overall, it’s a commendable instrument that balances innovation and tradition at an accessible price, making it a worthy addition for bassists looking for versatility without sacrificing quality.

A gem and a mod platform

The neck plays better than some American production models. The pickups sound better than EMG Geezer Butlers (or at least comparable). The controls work really nicely. The finish is flawless. It’s just a stunning bass.

I wish the nut was bone, the tuners were deluxe, and the bridge was laterally adjustable, but those things are tiny. £40 gets you a drop-in replacement HiMass bridge if you want, but that’s a minimal issue.

Just change the strings, do a proper setup, and this bass is solid!

Overall a fantastic bass. It’s a shame they didn’t catch on better as Fender has discontinued them.

Better than I wanted it to be

I bought this bass as a backup of may vintage PB and didn't expect that it will sometimes become my primary guitar. First of all it looks really astonishing. The Tidepool colour is just amazing. It's a really versatile - PB & JB pickups are everything a bassist could wish from a Fender bass. The the offset body and "C" Jazz bass style neck are super comfortable to play. The pickup signal is strong. The guitar has this vintage sound but with modern twist. The build quality is good but not perfect. Some frets seem to have a bit stoo harp edges and could use a little bit of polishing, the pickup controlling pots in my guitar were swapped- the front one controlled the bridge pickup and the back one controlled the neck which was weird - so was the factory pickup height setup. The saddle broke after 2 years of use and needed to be replaced. But despite few problems - it's a bass that really makes you fall in love with it.

Wish I could've kept it after my friend loaned it to me!

A friend loaned this bass to me so I could play a gig (since I only played guitar at the time and I didn't have my own), and I wish I could've kept it afterward. A solid instrument, and so much fun to play!
