We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Line 6 Spider II 150W Head.

Features and functionality

  • The Line 6 Spider II 150W head generally does not include built-in speakers, necessitating external speakers or headphones for sound output.

    Source
  • Running the amp head without a speaker load can damage it; however, using headphones via a headphone out is an option if available.

    Source
  • The headphone output may lack cabinet emulation, resulting in a trebly and fuzzy tone unless a cabinet emulator is used.

    Source
  • The Spider II head struggles with digital distortion when paired with humbuckers, causing a "wooshing" effect and static sounds at high input levels.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • It’s crucial to verify the manual for USB recording capabilities without a cab to prevent potential damage to the amp.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Boss Katana is noted for its ease of use and versatility across genres, unlike the Spider II's reputation for limited appeal among metal beginners.

    Source

Use cases and applications

Good starter amp.

This was my first proper amplifier and I used it together with the matching Line 6 cabinet. I've had a few minor problems with it not responding to my inputs on the knobs such as the volume gaps being weird and not being able to turn off the effects. I don't want that to bring this amp down though. Despite it's small flaws I've had with it, it's a really decent starter amp. I paid only 120€, second hand, together with the cabinet and I've brought it to both practice and bigger events. It's got a decent enough distortion and a good variety in both effects and sounds.
