Modal Skulpt SE: Review - Sand, software and sound

sandsoftwaresound.net

Modal Electronics' Skulpt SE delivers a compact, portable synthesizer experience, but with some quirks. While it excels in producing lush, laid-back sounds perfect for ambient music, the build quality feels a bit plasticky, and the keyboard functionality is limited, serving only as a “courtesy keyboard.” Users may face a learning curve with initial setup issues, and note robbing can hinder live performances. Overall, the sound quality and software integration impress, making it a solid choice for those seeking affordable, versatile sound design options. Just be prepared for some compromises on the tactile experience and keyboard performance.

Modal Electronics SkulptSynth SE review

engadget.com

The Modal Electronics SkulptSynth SE delivers impressive sound quality and a wealth of features at an unbeatable price, making it a standout in the budget synth category. However, its convoluted interface and less-than-stellar build quality may frustrate users, especially when navigating its numerous controls. While it excels in sound design flexibility, the touch keyboard might leave much to be desired. Overall, if you can overlook these design flaws, the SkulptSynth SE is a powerful tool for any aspiring musician.

Modal SKULPTsynth SE review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Modal Electronics Skulpt SE offers a solid foundation with a strong sound engine and useful modulation capabilities, but it struggles with a few notable flaws. The updated interface is an improvement, yet the layout remains less intuitive, making quick adjustments cumbersome. The keyboard feels cheap, and the limited effects and mono output may disappoint some users. While the price drop is appealing, it might not be enough to overshadow these shortcomings for seasoned synthesizer enthusiasts. Overall, it's a decent option for beginners but lacks the polish to impress veterans.

Modal SKULPTsynth SE Review

musictech.com

The Modal Electronics SKULPTsynth SE is a compact powerhouse, offering a rich sound palette and intuitive controls, making it ideal for portable music creation. While features like MPE compatibility and a robust app enhance its appeal, the filter underwhelms, lacking the depth and precision expected at this price point. Overall, its strengths shine, but potential buyers should weigh the filter's limitations against its versatility.

Incredible for the money

A modal synth for £160 is a no brainer, the computer interface is a bit buggy but this synth sounds like a £1000 plus synth and also has its own signiture sound which fits very well into mixes. Its sound very retro and also very modern, has effects, morphable filters, complex modulation, effects, sequencer, arpegiator etc..
