Critic Reviews

Mooer Slow Engine

soundonsound.com

The Mooer Slow Engine pedal is a compact, metal-cased gem for guitarists seeking a slow-attack effect reminiscent of the rare Boss Slow Gear SG‑1. It’s easy to use with a low noise floor and versatile attack times, transforming guitars into bowed instruments or adding a fretless touch to bass. While simple, it requires finesse to trigger effectively, as fast note sequences might not engage the fade-in. Despite needing an external power supply, its affordable price and creative potential make it a standout for ambient and cinematic soundscapes, earning a positive nod from musicians and synthesists alike.

Mooer’s Slow Engine Volume Swell | Vintage Guitar® magazine

vintageguitar.com

The Mooer Slow Engine impresses with its compact design and true-bypass switching, reviving the classic '80s volume swell effect in a modern, pedalboard-friendly package. While its DC-only power requirement might be a minor inconvenience, the Slow Engine's versatile controls for attack and sensitivity make it a compelling tool for creating lush, spacey sounds across a variety of instruments. Ideal for adding depth to lead lines and chords, it's particularly enchanting when paired with reverb and chorus, delivering a sound reminiscent of David Gilmour's ethereal tones. Affordably priced, this pedal is a must-try for experimental guitarists.

Modest

It does its job well, considering it's a slow attack pedal, but it isn't very useful on its own, it is very subtle, you almost can't hear it. When you use it along with other modulation pedals and delay/echo/reverb it adds a sound for ambient soundscapes, etc.

reverse echo / volume pedal effect

A tiny unit, this is a very nice addition, especially on a crowded pedalboard. The slow engine does organ-like swells and Robert Fripp style wierdness. A useful niche pedal

Boss Slow Gear clone

I've wanted a Slow Gear for a very long time. The Mooer is every bit as complex as the Boss. This pedal is not for everyone but those who are looking to add a bit of swell to their sound will be pleasantly surprised at what this pedal can do for the cost.
