Reviews

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Pearl Professional FW-2.

Build quality

  • It's noted that vintage Pearl kits from the era often have unilock tilters and 10 lugs on the bass drum, suggesting a top-line kit despite their lesser-known reputation at the time.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Storing drums in travel cases for decades can cause moisture damage or shells to settle out of round, but shiny chrome is a positive sign of maintained condition.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Pearl Wood-Fiberglass drums from the 70s can tune up great and offer a warm, vintage sound, though they compete with modern intermediate maple kits in the $500 range.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Despite their age, Pearl Wood-Fiberglass kits are praised for their lovely warm, resonant vintage vibe, suitable for those seeking a classic sound.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Owners suggest that, due to limited collector interest, these vintage kits might fetch $500 or less, comparable to modern intermediate-level kits.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Specific to cymbals, the Sabian B8 Pro ride is noted for its clear ping and bell, but is criticized for not being suitable for dark/washy styles.

Wood/Fiberglass hybrid shells = LOUD

Since my last comment on this drumset, I've bought more cymbals and done a full head replacement. It's great! Currently in the process of mic'ing it all up.
