Critic Reviews

PreSonus Studio One Pro 7

soundonsound.com

PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 offers a solid mix of updates, including AI-powered stem separation and Splice integration, but the real highlight is the new Launcher feature that enhances looping and clip-based production. While the pricing structure is appealing, the reliance on a Splice subscription diminishes some of the integration's usefulness. The stem separation works well for reworking old tracks but suffers from artifacts. Overall, while it builds on a strong foundation, it lacks significant new virtual instruments and features for mastering engineers. A dependable DAW that caters to a broad audience, it feels more like an incremental upgrade than a groundbreaking release.

Review: PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

PreSonus Studio One Pro 7 strikes a compelling balance between innovative features and user-friendly pricing, making it an attractive choice for both EDM enthusiasts and traditionalists. The integration with Splice and advanced tempo detection are standout enhancements, streamlining workflows significantly. However, traditional users may find the focus on electronic music leaves them wanting, particularly due to the absence of a robust virtual drum instrument. While the DAW's new licensing model simplifies upgrades, the reliance on features many may never use could be a turn-off for some. Overall, it’s a solid upgrade that encourages long-term investment, provided potential users are aware of its EDM-centric leanings.

Most User Friendly Versatile DAW

(This is a copy of my Studio One review)

Most DAWs are great and the general consensus is "if you already know a DAW well there's no reason to switch to it." I abide by that philosophy, it's just that Studio One can do anything any other DAW can do, but easier and faster. There are also a couple things that Studio One does that others can't like a lot of range of undoing and redoing ( CTRL+Z ) and being able to drag plugin chains to other channels. Macros are also a reason I'd say to check it out even if you know another DAW well. Also the different templates for mixing, mastering, recording, beat making, etc are very convenient. The mastering and CD formatting / burning capabilities are a nice addition if you need that. The mastering template in general is great, I know people who use other DAWs who use Studio One to master.

So, that's pretty much it, it works, it's incredibly versatile.
