The Complete Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen Review | 2025

soundref.com

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 4th Gen offers exceptional sound quality and user-friendly features, making it an excellent choice for both beginners and seasoned musicians. With high-spec preamps and upgraded converters, it excels in delivering clear audio, and the intuitive layout simplifies recording. However, the absence of a MIDI socket and the lack of individual phantom power control may deter some users. While it shines with its Auto Gain and Clip Safe features, the limitations on simultaneous input connections can be frustrating. Overall, it's a strong contender in the budget audio interface market, but a few enhancements could elevate it to perfection.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (Gen 4) Review: Better Than Ever, but So Is the Competition

howtogeek.com

The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 Gen 4 delivers solid sound quality with enhanced converters and convenient features like auto-gain, making it a strong contender for solo musicians and content creators. However, it stumbles with the absence of MIDI ports and limited monitor mixing options, which could frustrate users of electronic instruments. While it stands out for its audio performance, the competition is fierce, leaving potential buyers to weigh their needs carefully against alternatives like the Universal Audio Volt 2. A notable upgrade, but not without its quirks.

Does it's job, and Desyncs every 20 minutes.

This interface has served me well. It does what it needs too-- in making sure my computer can interface with the sound my instruments make. One of the more important pieces of the puzzle, to me, is that a product is able to CONTINUE doing its job. I'm not confident in this thing.

I've had it for coming up on three years now, and the biggest sign of wear is a scratchy monitor pot. It sorts itself out if I move it around enough, though. Most of its features are in software, which I absolutely despise, but the front panel is clean enough that I can deal with it. I do not like the sound of the preamps, but this entire thing was $200 brand new-- the cost of the cheapest usable preamp I know of. My biggest problem with this device is that the audio desync's at random about every 20 minutes. I cannot find a solution, and their support team was unhelpful in finding a solution.

My take: If you are looking to buy a new interface, look at any other option in the price range (VOLT, SSL mk2/2+). If you already have one, or if a deal on a used one is too good to pass up, then know that this will serve you well. You could produce a record that changes the world on this thing. I'm not talented enough to do that, so I'll be looking elsewhere.

Damn.

It has been times like these where people are continuously searching for the best audio interfaces in the year 2024, and are often getting suggested Behringer products, Behringer being a company I don't trust due to the infamous KIRN CorkSniffer incident. As a matter of fact, Uli Behringer, the man behind his eponymous company, is a total nutjob. But, this is it. The Scarlett 2i2. For singer-songwriters, and weekend warriors (like me), and even the professionals. I cannot tell you how good this thing has done me. Gone are the days of me having to use a cheap USB mic from Razer, for this came with its own XLR condenser microphone. What I love about it is everything. Low latency promise is legit, Auto and Safe modes are fantastic for people who aren't used to fiddling with knobs or don't want to experience digital clipping in their recordings OR don't want to have a too wimpy signal, and the software included. Yes, you get software for free if you register the interface (with the interface's serial number on the bottom). What I don't like about it is the mic. I know, it may not matter since it's a low-noise cardioid condenser mic that's meant for virtually anything (better for vocals and acoustic guitars), but my room isn't treated because no one in my family ever considered buying acoustic panels because of their lack of knowledge for ANYTHING in the sound world. But I'm still rating this 5 stars, because even if it'll pick up noise, it's not gonna be all that heard when my mouth is closer to it. Did I also mention that the review is about the interface and NOT the mic? Threw you off there, didn't I? But, yes, this is a solid interface, and it will do you so much good along the way. Hell, probably better than what Behringer offers.
