  • Cubase Elements has a track limitation of 64 tracks, which is manageable for most users who typically work with fewer than 20 tracks.

    Source
  • The internal sampler in Cubase 14 is praised for quick sample manipulation, reminiscent of Akai S3000, despite having superior alternatives like Kontakt.

Value and pricing

  • Some users express disappointment in Cubase 14, feeling it lacks significant AI features and resembles a minor upgrade rather than a new version.

  • The step sequencer in Cubase 14 lacks groove quantize, undo, and copy-paste between tracks, limiting its utility for detailed drum programming.

    Source
  • Some users report using the Artist version without missing significant features, except for the iPad remote control option available in Pro.

    Source
  • Some users report that Cubase 14 offers improved volume automation, which is seen as a long-awaited feature that enhances workflow efficiency.

    Source
  • For those producing music in genres requiring heavy modulation, like trance or ambient, Cubase 14's new tools may offer significant creative advantages.

Critic Reviews

“In a world where AI is starting to impact in so many areas of tech, it is notable and perhaps refreshing that this gets no mention in this release”: Steinberg Cubase Pro 14 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Steinberg Cubase Pro 14 offers solid updates, like new modulation tools and a revamped Score Editor, but it doesn’t break new ground. While the Performance Monitor is a handy addition, the GUI inconsistencies can hinder usability, especially on larger displays. Enhanced event volume curves and the Pattern Sequencer add functionality, yet some features feel underdeveloped. Overall, this update meets expectations without delivering a significant leap forward, making it suitable for both long-time users and newcomers, albeit with room for improvement.

Steinberg Cubase Pro 14

soundonsound.com

Steinberg Cubase Pro 14 brings a host of new features, especially with its sophisticated Drum Track and integrated Drum Machine, promising a modernized workflow. However, while these enhancements are commendable, the overall upgrade feels lackluster, lacking standout features that truly excite. Users may find the interface improvements and MIDI 2.0 support beneficial, but frustrations arise from limitations in usability, like the inability to easily open the Drum Machine in a separate window. Despite its potential, the upgrade seems to miss the mark for those seeking a groundbreaking experience.

Steinberg Cubase Pro 14 review : Mod About You - Audiofanzine

audiofanzine.com

Steinberg's Cubase Pro 14 expands creative possibilities with innovative features like modulators and a new rhythmic sequencer. The introduction of the Drum Machine enhances groove creation, while effects such as Shimmer and StudioDelay add depth to sound design. However, the software still lacks some user-desired functionalities like M/S management and full-screen support on Mac. While the interface remains consistent and slightly cumbersome, the myriad of small improvements and comprehensive toolset make this version a worthy upgrade for current users and an attractive option for newcomers. Overall, it's a powerful DAW that delivers on creativity, though not without a few lingering shortcomings.

This is a wonderful DAW

Cubase 14 has a great design. It has wonderful compatibility with hardware of other brands (NKS hardware from my experience). It handles every task without any crashing or freezing. The key binds allow for fast and thorough production. The native plugins are high quality and are worth using alongside your 3rd party plugins.
