Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about PRS Mark Tremonti MT100 100-watt Tube Amplifier Head.

Features and functionality

  • The MT-100's three channels are distinct and based on iconic amps: Channel 1 mirrors a Fender Twin, Channel 2 a Dumble, and Channel 3 combines Bogner Uberschall with Dual Rec influences.

    Source
  • The MT-100 is described as using independent preamp sections rather than cascading them, essentially functioning as three separate amplifiers within one head.

    Source
  • The Bugera 6262 Infinium is a budget-friendly clone of the 6505+, featuring auto bias and tube monitoring for improved reliability.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The target retail price for the PRS MT-100 is $1800, making it an attractive option for those considering a swap from a Dual Rectifier.

    Source
  • Used PRS MT15 amps can be found for around $500, making them a budget-friendly option for those seeking Rectifier-inspired tones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users speculate the MT-100 might follow the PRS Archon's production model, potentially manufactured overseas and assembled in the US, influencing its final pricing and quality perception.

    Source
  • The PRS MT15 is noted for having a tighter gain than an unboosted Rectifier, with its clean channel highly praised for pedal compatibility.

    Source
  • Peavey 5150/6505 amps are mentioned as alternatives with a similar sound profile to the Dual Rectifier, inspired by the SLO100, yet distinct when examined closely.

    Source
  • The Victory Kraken line offers configurations similar to the 6505+, including pedal amp, pedal preamp, and head options.

    Source
  • The Peavey JSX is noted as a cleaner, brighter alternative to the Triple XXX, featuring additional resonance and presence knobs.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The MT15 is considered more suitable for modern metal due to its gain characteristics, while the Mesa Single Rectifier is favored for classic rock tones.

    Source
  • The EVH 5150 III is recognized for its close tonal resemblance to the 6505+, offering a slightly different flavor and budget-friendly pricing.

    Source

User experience

  • One user highlighted the PRS MT100's tighter gain profile as a downside when seeking the looser feel of traditional Rectifiers for hard rock tones.

    Source
  • Some owners find that a simple patch lead between FX loop in/out can resolve volume drop issues caused by FX loop socket expansion when heated.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Volume drop issues in tube amps are often related to power tube failures or cold solder joints, which are relatively simple to repair.

PRS Mark Tremonti MT 100 review | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The PRS Mark Tremonti MT100 delivers powerful, dynamic tones and a simple, effective design that caters to rock enthusiasts. Its three-channel setup offers versatility, producing everything from crisp cleans to thick, harmonic-laden distortions that cater to a range of playing styles. However, its lack of modern features like DI outputs or power scaling may deter some users, and its hefty build requires a substantial speaker cabinet for optimal performance. Ultimately, this amp is tailored for serious players seeking classic rock sounds in a robust package.

PRS MT100 Mark Tremonti Signature Head | Review - Guitar Interactive Magazine

guitarinteractivemagazine.com

Exceptional tone and versatility define the PRS Mark Tremonti MT100. With its three-channel setup, it delivers sparkling cleans, roaring high-gain leads, and a chameleon-like overdrive that suits various styles. However, its hefty build and proprietary footswitch cable may frustrate some users. Despite these drawbacks, the MT100’s stellar sound quality and competitive pricing make it a compelling choice for stage and studio alike.

Review: PRS MT100

mixdownmag.com.au

The PRS Mark Tremonti MT100 is a powerhouse for rock and metal, outshining competitors like the Peavey 5150II. Its three channels deliver a versatile range of tones, from crystal-clear cleans to saturated leads, all while maintaining impressive clarity and headroom. The inclusion of independent EQ and Presence controls allows for fine-tuning, making it incredibly user-friendly. However, its hefty price tag of $3699 may deter budget-conscious players. Despite this, the MT100's dynamic response and tonal richness make it an exceptional choice for serious musicians looking to invest in a long-term amplifier.

I am satisfied

At first, I wasn't convinced and wanted to sell it or exchange it. Over time, I got used to it. The clean channel has the most beautiful sound; it's authentic and professional. I wasn't convinced by the overdrive channel. It has no distinctive character and isn't enough for rock or metal. The lead channel has a good sound, intelligent, clear, rich. It's not designed for extreme genres, but in combination with another overdrive or equalizer, it's really heavy. The advantage and disadvantage is that the PRS MT 100 is loud. It's too powerful for practicing at home, but it's perfect for rehearsals and concerts.
