Description

The Trigon-6 Desktop by Sequential is a 6-voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer.

The Sequential Trigon-6 Desktop Module delivers the same sound and hands-on sonic control as the Trigon-6 Keyboard. And the same analog signal path with discrete oscillators and filters and digital effects. It also has the same intuitive layout with full-sized knobs and switches.

At the heart of the Trigon-6 sound are three newly designed voltage-controlled oscillators (with triangle, saw, and pulse waves) and an enhanced version of the ladder filter that Sequential created for its Pro 3 mono synth. The switchable 2/4 pole resonant filter design has dedicated drive and feedback controls that make it effortless to go from silky and smooth to bold and crunchy with a simple knob turn.

Naturally, the Trigon-6 has the full complement of Sequential’s sound-sculpting features including super snappy envelopes, a syncable LFO with multiple waveforms and destinations, a polyphonic step sequencer, and an arpeggiator. The knob-per-function front panel of the Trigon-6 puts these controls at your fingertips. And the ready-made palette of 500 factory and 500 user presets provides classic basses, leads, and pads.

Also present is Sequential’s classic Poly Mod. Modulation sources are filter envelope and oscillator 3 (both with bi-polar control). Destinations include oscillator 1, 2, and 3 frequency, oscillator 1, 2, and 3 pulse width, filter cutoff, and feedback. Unison mode is here as well, featuring configurable voice count (1-6 voices for up to 18 simultaneous oscillators) and key modes.

The dual effects section provides studio-quality reverbs, delays (standard and BBD), chorus, flanger, phaser, and ring modulator. The independent stereo distortion effect adds on-demand aggression and is 100% analog.

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Sequential Trigon-6 6-voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer.

Features and functionality

  • The Trigon-6's third oscillator serves as a polyphonic LFO with an extra "Lo" setting on the octave knob, enhancing modulation options.

    Source
  • Trigon-6 is noted for its drive, distortion, and high resonance, creating a sound reminiscent of the Sherman Filterbank, appealing for hard styles.

    Source
  • The Trigon-6 lacks bass compensation in its filter, leading to a loss of low frequencies as resonance increases, unlike the Prophet-6 and Take-5.

    Source
  • Take-5's OSCs can produce sine waves and morph wave shapes, with some sound design features, like Glide/Portamento, hidden in menus.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The ladder filter on the Trigon-6 is seen as more refined than the Pro 3's but still not as rich as Moog's, especially in comparison to Moog's Sub37 and Matriarch.

    Source
  • The Trigon-6 offers a unique sound profile with its three VCOs and ladder filter, placing it between the P6 and OB6 in terms of sonic character.

    Source
  • The Trigon-6 is described as having a "fatter" sound due to its three oscillators, making it the fattest sounding Sequential synth according to some users.

    Source
  • Take-5 is viewed as sounding more compressed and less bright/warm compared to other Prophets, lacking in upper and low mids.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some users report inconsistent build quality in Sequential products, noting issues such as loose knobs and parts breaking within two years of ownership.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Trigon-6 is priced similarly to the P6 and OB6, reflecting a consistent price rise due to inflation and currency fluctuations, especially impacting Canadian buyers.

    Source

Sequential Trigon-6

soundonsound.com

The Sequential Trigon-6 is a fitting tribute to Dave Smith's legacy, boasting a rich, polyphonic analog sound that captures the essence of classic synthesizers. With three oscillators per voice and a Moog-inspired ladder filter, it offers a broad sonic palette, from warm pads to aggressive leads. The build quality and aesthetics are commendable, though the four-octave keyboard might not suit everyone, and the coarse filter knob may irk precision seekers. Despite lacking some FM capabilities, the Trigon-6 is a versatile and expressive synth, delivering vintage and modern sounds with ease. It's a solid choice for those craving that nostalgic yet powerful analog experience.

Sequential Trigon-6 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Sequential Trigon-6 is a fitting tribute to Dave Smith's legacy, merging classic Sequential design with unique filtering. This synth offers intuitive modulation and a powerful sound palette, reminiscent of both the Minimoog and Memorymoog. While the modulation options are fewer compared to some competitors and the polyphony could be better for the price, the Trigon-6 impresses with its rich sound and hands-on controls. Its price might be steep, but for those seeking a distinctive sonic character and a piece of synth history, it stands proudly alongside its predecessors.

Sequential Trigon-6 In-Depth Review – Synthtopia

synthtopia.com

Sequential's Trigon-6 is a fitting homage to the classic Moog sound with its polyphonic capabilities and rich, analog tones. The layout, brimming with dedicated knobs, allows for swift sound crafting, making it a boon for musicians seeking flexibility. It's a celebration of Dave Smith’s legacy, offering both a reminiscent and reliable experience akin to the Memorymoog, but with modern enhancements like a more expressive keyboard and effects. While it might not be essential for those already stocked with analog polysynths, its appeal as a potential module is undeniable. For those craving a vintage vibe with contemporary reliability, the Trigon-6 hits the mark, even if it feels like a Moog concept executed by Sequential. It's a valuable addition to the Sequential family, catering to users who want a blend of nostalgic sound with modern functionality.

Sequential Trigon-6 is Dave Smith’s last love letter to American synth icons

musictech.com

The Sequential Trigon-6 shines as Dave Smith's final masterpiece, blending the essence of American synth legends with its Moog-style ladder filter and robust trio of oscillators. It offers a user-friendly interface that appeals to both novices and seasoned synth enthusiasts. While the aftertouch is somewhat heavy-handed and more visual cues for modulation would be welcome, its distinct character and vintage feel make it a remarkable tribute to classic synthesis. Despite its premium price, the Trigon-6 holds its ground as a fitting conclusion to Smith's legacy, delivering rich sonic textures and versatility.
