Reviews

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Shubb Capo.

Features and functionality

  • The C1 model is preferred for its versatility across different guitar necks, including modified V-necks on high-end guitars like the Collings OM2H.

    Source
  • The F1 model is praised for adjustable tension and even string pressure but is slower to position than trigger-style capos.

    Source

Build quality

  • Shubb Deluxe models are noted for their full stainless steel construction, offering durability over die-cast alternatives.

    Source
  • Some users noted that newer Shubb capos have a more rigid rubber, which is less preferred compared to older models.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report Shubb capos remain functional even after 20+ years, with minor wear such as rubber tear not affecting performance.

    Source
  • Sharing a single capo between nylon and steel string guitars often results in poor fit and string buzzing, indicating the need for separate capos for each guitar type.

    Source
  • Owners often carry multiple Shubb capos to avoid losing them, with some keeping a pocket version for convenience.

    Source
  • A user has modified their Shubb capo by cutting it down to cover only 4 strings, allowing for unique alternate tunings.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Users compare Shubb's unobtrusive design favorably against bulkier options like the Kyser, appreciating its minimal interference while playing.

    Source
  • Shubb capos are contrasted with plastic alternatives like G7th for their sturdiness, appealing to those who prefer metal construction.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The C3 model's extra length is beneficial for capoing higher up the neck on a 12-string guitar, with a preference for the less conspicuous black finish.

    Source
  • Classical nylon string capos may cause buzzing on steel strings due to insufficient pressure on outer E strings, highlighting the importance of matching the capo to the guitar type.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • A capo meant for nylon strings is wider and can accommodate the flatter fretboards typical of classical guitars, whereas steel string capos are narrower and fit radiused fretboards.

    Source
  • Replacement rubber sleeves and screws are commonly replaced by long-term users, indicating easy maintenance and extended lifespan.

In my opinion, the most attractive capo. Sort of requires two hands though.

Works really well, looks gorgeous as capos come, but I can never put it on with one hand without dropping it. Sort of a two-hand approach for me. Thus, only 4 stars.
