Critic Reviews

Sonicware Liven XFM

soundonsound.com

Sonicware's Liven XFM is a bold attempt at modern FM synthesis, but it stumbles with a confusing interface and a lack of intuitive design. While the Fusion FM modes provide exciting sound morphing capabilities, the clunky layout, non-velocity-sensitive keys, and a perplexing manual detract from its usability. The sequencer shines with lively performance features, yet the disjointed flow between sound creation and sequencing leaves users frustrated. Ultimately, the XFM presents an intriguing concept hampered by execution flaws, making it a challenging choice for those not willing to invest time in learning its quirks.
