Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Spector Euro 5LX.

Mods and upgrades

  • The LHZ04 preamp is chosen to replace the non-adjustable TonePump for a more classic tone.

    Source
  • 40DCX EMG soap bars are considered for their brightness, though they require a battery.

    Source
  • The EMG BQC preamp upgrade provides a flat response with adjustable treble, allowing for a less aggressive tone than the original setup.

    Source
  • Switching to EMG 40CS pickups is recommended for a warmer sound, as these are less bright than the 40DCs and are compatible with quick-connect cables.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Grounding issues possibly linked to bridge pickup; resolved by touching the bass when the back board is removed.

    Source
  • It's advised to start with bass and treble controls all the way off and only boost in small increments to avoid excessive gain with hot pickups.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • 2008 models might have older hardwired EMGs, complicating installation with plug-in systems.

    Source
  • TWX pickups, identified by a gold EMG label, were standard with the TonePump preamp in previous iterations of the Euro 5LX.

    Source

Build quality

  • Older models featured a gloss finish, which can be confused with current matte finishes; this detail helps authenticate pre-2010 versions.

    Source

Other

  • Serial numbers for Czech-made Spectors post-2001 begin with "NB" and follow a coding system to identify production year, aiding in authenticating the instrument.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The Spector Euro5 LX may not suit styles that avoid overdrive, as its natural tone is bright and aggressive, even with adjustments.

Amazing!

Best bass I have ever played. The craftsmanship is top shelf. The setup out of the box was perfect and stays in tune. It has the Growl Spector is known for. The neck feels great and I think it's very easy to play.

It's Alright

I dig it. The string tension and neck profile is really nice. Makes for a fast and punchy play style. The bass has a good weight to it. The signature Spector growl is difficult to dial in with this bass for some reason. The preamp and pickups are pretty powerful. I'd say a 7/10.
