Great for live vocals- Ok for studio work
The Heil Fin is a cardioid pattern, phantom powered, dynamic mic that can be used in live contexts as well as in the studio. It has a very nice, solid build weighing in at 26.4 ounces. Heil is known for a quality midrange response, and this mic doesn't disappoint in that regard. Frequency response is between 60hz and 18khz, with the most clear sound coming through around 4 kHz. Overall this mic excels in live performances, boasting a blue LED on the inside if you needed any added stage presence. My only criticism is that I've found that the upper mid range and high frequencies can cut through a little too much in my studio recordings- especially because my voice naturally occupies those upper frequencies so I have to do more post work in eq'ing them out. Overall, an excellent product for its price! The Heil Fin is available on Sweetwater and Amazon.com for between $220.00 and $250.00
