Description

The Tokai Humming Bird 230S, introduced in 1967 by Tokai Gakki in Hamamatsu, Japan, was their flagship electric guitar model. Inspired by the Mosrite Ventures model, it featured an offset body with a German carve and sharp points. The body was constructed using alternating dark woods in a butcher-block style, stained to highlight the grain.

A notable feature of the 230S was its onboard fuzz circuit hidden beneath the pickguard, delivering edgy, raw tones reminiscent of bands like The Outcast and The Jaguars.

In the early 1970s, Tokai also produced the “Hummingbird Custom” acoustic guitar series, which preceded the “Cat’s Eyes” series.

The Tokai Humming Bird 230S is highly regarded among vintage guitar enthusiasts and collectors for its unique design and built-in fuzz circuit.
