This single 2U rack-mountable unit is a perfect blend of 1960s-era tube preamps and compressors, with a modern twist to meet today's recording needs. Review of the Universal Audio LA-610 MkII – Making A Scene!

makingascene.org

The Universal Audio LA-610 Mk II impresses with its warm, rich tone and versatility, making it a go-to for recording engineers. Combining a classic 610 tube preamp and LA-2A compressor, it offers excellent value compared to buying each separately. Enhancements like true bypass, improved metering, and an auto-sensing power supply add modern convenience without compromising the vintage charm. While modifications are possible, they're risky and could void warranties. Overall, if you're seeking a high-quality tube preamp and compressor for diverse applications, the LA-610 Mk II is a sound investment.

Had some weird experiences with this

This overall seems really good but you need to sync the Gain of the Interface with your DAW so that it wont clash with the bass and Kicks

jimmarchi1

the 610 is really about tracking live instruments, and most of all vocals... not that its not cool for dance music, but it excels at helping tracks stand out in a dense rock band situation. want to kick some ass with it? run a synth into a guitar amp and mic it up thru the 610 for a standout lead line with a little room on it.

LA610 with limit and compressor works great

I really need to swap the tubes as many gear friends have suggested it and that it makes a noticeable improvement. Happy with how it is now for the most part

Mentioned in this 2018 article from Baker's website I Want To Be A Voice Actor!

I “warm up” the tone of my voice via the mic with a microphone pre-amp which features “tube emulation” and a built in compressor to guard against sudden fluctuations in sound level. This can run you anywhere from just over $100 to well over $1000. For me, this is the second most expensive sound hardware in my studio, after my computer. I use a Universal Audio LA-610 II pre-amp/compressor.

Mentioned and pictured in this May 2019 Sound on Sound interview.

The design aesthetic of Elder's home studio could be characterised as dorm-room chic: a few posters and a couple of decorated skateboards hang on the walls, with guitars, basses and a cello near at hand. But otherwise, it's pretty utilitarian, with a Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol S61 keyboard controller and screens for his Pro Tools 12 HD system, and a couple of favourite outboard pieces in a rack, including a Universal Audio LA-610 MkII preamp/compressor.
