P90's Power

I'm always searching for that classic Neil Young Weld sound. With this Gibson Les Paul Special Vintage '55 from 1970 I get the raw power of his sound. I know he uses a Firebird Pick Up on his Les Paul, but with these P90's I'm really getting there. I also use this guitar for his early works like Down by the River, Cortez the Killer and Danger Bird. I almost always play Neil Young & Crazy Horse, so my Les Paul Special is my go to guitar.

damn, your review got to the firebird pickup just as I was formulating my "nyah nyah wrong bridge pickup" response

this looks exactly like my uncle's early 70s special. Except yours probably doesn't have a headstock repair from putting 14 guage strings on it like a dope who thinks good tone comes from playing half-assed jazz fusion licks on tree trunks.

Haha, just in time! I've just asked the builder of my Telecaster if he can build me a guitar with a Firebird and P90 pick up ;).

Nope, no headstock repair thank the gods. My Special only has it's Pickguard removed. I like it more this way =)

Sorely missed

I had one of these for many years, before it was stolen. Maybe Gibson's first reissue. Pickups were great, neck comfortable, sound spectacular. The bridge was its weak point, the stock unit buzzed a little, and intonation was impossible to get right. Replaced it with a Badass bridge, wich solved these problems.
