Great guitar for players who know what they're doing
Great guitar, but you have to know what you want with this guitar to be satisfied. It isn't as easy as simply plugging in any strat into a decent amp and getting that nice clean tone. This guitar really does well handling any pedal, high volume, and high gain situations. As soon as you get this guitar cooking with some distortion or overdrive, it sings. In order to really be happy with a purely clean lead or rhythm tone, I highly recommend the TC electronic compressor, I keep it on the whole time especially when using this guitar. This guitar thins out in low volume environments and I cannot recommend this as the best option for playing in some of the following situations: lower-volume gigs / jams where you would be restricted in your typical amp and pedal board set up, such as maybe a jazz gig (I have tried doing jazz standard type stuff with this guitar and it won't cut it for a nice clean jazz tone in gigs and jams you care about).
Now don't get me wrong, this is one downside for an amazing guitar. If you want to play blues, funk, melodic rock, and either get a nice sustained, overdriven tone or a broken up, distorted tone, your in luck. Highly recommend running a compressor and then a pedal like a tube screamer with this guitar (I've been told this is not conventional, but it is much better than the conventional placement of distortion before compressor). This pedal placement is the ideal way to get a really sustained, singing, melodic rock slightly overdriven tone, typically of players like Trey Anastasio, Al di Meola, and some Hendrix type stuff. I'd recommend replacing the factory pickups with Seymour Duncan SH-1's and potentially coil tapping them (get the 4 conductor SD SH-1's) if you want to make your guitar more versatile.
