Great looking and sounding guitar, offering fantastic hardware with great setup out of the box.... love it!

The AXL AL-1080 Torino is a simple set neck, single cut guitar based on a Les Paul Junior. Dimension wise it is identical to a 57 LPJ (I know as I compared measurements when looking for a case) the main difference is in shape around the horn and around the base of the neck. Weight wise mine weighs 6lb 12oz, perfect for gigging.

Why did I buy this rather than a Gibson or an Epiphone? Simply because it is fantastic value in comparison and although not identical in looks it is very close. Also I like to be a bit different, although I do/have had guitars from major brands I also like it when people are curious and impressed by something a perhaps they have never seen before.

So what make it good value? These are my thoughts, others may disagree but what caught my eye was:

Price paid, £379
Mahogany 3 piece body, 1 piece neck
Looks good, nice headstock (not like some of the other cheaper AXL offerings)
Lindy Fralin pickup (sounds fantastic)
Protones wraparound bridge (oozes quality)
Grover tuners
Quality wiring using CTS pots, etc
Hand finished in USA, including fret installation, proper setup before being sent out (master builder according to videos and other web based info)
IMO it sounded more alive than the equivalent Gibson, setup suited me perfectly and not a hint of needing further set up) .

Great looking and sounding guitar, offering fantastic hardware with great setup out of the box.... love it!

Final thoughts: I've had Gibson Les Paul's which were no where nearly as well finished as this. It has a boutique pickup, quality hardware for less than an Epiphone (set neck, not bolt neck). Bargain!
