A reverb pedal with a plus
This pedal is sort of amazing when you need a LOT of reverb! The pedal is kinda OK if you are looking for a standalone reverb pedal to add reverb to your rig. And this pedal is a sleeper pedal when you want to modify it to so much more!!
Digitech released the XP series of pedals in the 90's as a succesor of the Whammy II pedal. Their idea was a multi effects pedal with only one parameter to control and yes, you control this parameter with the threadle. Besides this reverb pedal you get the XP100 whammy wah (pitch and wah), the XP200 modulator (chorus, flanger, etc), the XP300 (space station) and this for reverb needs.
The pedal is identical to its XP brothers and sisters in build and options. The pedal is stereo but can also be used in a mono way. You power it with a 9V AC power supply (should be included to the pedal) and it has a preamp gain control on the back; with this control set to 0 you have no signal at all! Two LED's on the pedal indicate if the pedal is receiving signal or is overloading (with this pedal control you can control that). Furthermore the preset is visible in the LCD screen that can be controlled by the top footswitch. All presets are visible on the back of the pedal.
You have two footswitches: - Top footswitch controls your presets; one tap = one preset up, long press is one preset down - Down footswitch gives you bypass (short tap) and the tuner (long press)
The pedal can also be set to user presets. You can program six user presets that you can control the same way as described.
The sound of the reverb is amazing! The threadle controls the mix of the audio: toe down = full reverb, heel down = no reverb. There are 50 presets to give you hall, cave, room, spring and plate like reverbs. There are also reverse reverbs that sound amazing (no dry when mixed, so no sound in the heel down position). It also has a volume pedal setting. The reverb trails when the pedal is switched off and trails when you turn the threadle to completely dry. It makes the sound feel really natural
The reverbs sound BIG! They are really prominent in the audio. The theadle doens't feel like it working lineair so you easily add to much reverb to the mix. The presets are working like they should and they will give you the idea of having control over more then one parameter. In this case, I haven't found a thing I'd like to add to the sound.
In the end it is an amazing reverb pedal you can use to get some serious reverb sounds from your rig!
Preferred Settings + Usage:
My favourites are the plate and the reverse reverbs. The plate size can be set by the preset giving you a tame/ short reverb or a really HUGE reverb sound that really trails! The reverse reverb is just an amazing giummick to give you a fade in option
