  • More about preparation than playful interaction

Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Erica Synths Matrix Mixer.

Features and functionality

  • The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer excels in AB testing configurations, aiding in troubleshooting signal ground leaks and optimizing gear interaction.

    Source
  • The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer in Eurorack format, now discontinued, was 29 HP wide and had a price point around $600, offering extensive routing options.

    Source
  • The Matrix Mixer's mono transport can be awkward for stereo gear, potentially requiring TRS collapse for stereo signals, simplifying routing but affecting mono audio placement.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Tight terminal spacing necessitates careful cable selection to ensure compatibility and ease of use.

    Source
  • Grouping stereo and mono devices separately can streamline the Matrix Mixer's usability, as some stereo pairs may start on odd-numbered rows, complicating routing.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners appreciate the Matrix Mixer's ability to test multiple signal chains, though some desire more refined gain/output level control for analog pedals.

    Source
  • Some users find it challenging to source comprehensive information and videos on matrix mixers, requiring extensive manual research and exploration to fully understand and utilize their capabilities.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Alyseum Matrix II, unlike the Erica Synths Matrix Mixer, is not a true mixer and only acts as a switch, requiring additional mixers for routing multiple inputs to a single output.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Switching matrix mixers like the Erica Synths model are ideal for reconfiguring effects chains from series to parallel and altering feedback patch orders efficiently.

    Source
  • Owners find recalling states in the Matrix Mixer beneficial for creating "off the shelf" setups, enhancing workflow flexibility and experimentation.

    Source
  • Stereo reverb input is often unnecessary unless used as an insert; a mono input may suffice, optimizing channel usage without diminishing reverb quality.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The Erica Synths Eurorack Matrix Mixer occasionally appears on the used market, such as on Reverb, indicating its desirability and potential investment value for collectors.

Critic Reviews

Erica Synths Matrix Mixer

soundonsound.com

The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer redefines modular routing, offering a visual and intuitive 16x16 matrix for connecting audio and CV signals with ease. Its standout features, like patch saving and instant recall, invigorate creativity by allowing quick reconfigurations during performance. However, the digital interface can feel cumbersome, and the lack of CV control over patterns limits some potential. Additionally, while it excels in routing, its basic mixing capabilities may lead to clipping without careful management. Ultimately, this device can transform your Eurorack experience, but its complexity and few design oversights may challenge less experienced users.

Erica Synths Matrix Mixer review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer redefines modular synthesis, turning complex patching into a streamlined experience. Its rugged design and 254 preset memory slots enhance usability, making it a powerful hub for both modular and standalone instruments. However, its front panel's empty spaces could benefit from more intuitive labeling options. Despite this, the unit's ability to creatively route signals without the hassle of constant re-patching is a game-changer for many musicians.

positive

Erica Synths Matrix Mixer review: Truly experimental and radical patching

musictech.com

The Erica Synths Matrix Mixer offers intriguing possibilities for modular enthusiasts with its digital core, allowing for memory recall and complex routing. However, its steep learning curve and sparse manual can frustrate newcomers. While the mixer excels in integrating various studio gear and features a robust all-analogue signal path, users may find the interface cramped and less intuitive than desired. It's a powerful tool for sound design, yet requires significant effort to master, making it more suited for dedicated users rather than casual musicians.
