pretty okay
I was not as impressed with Lindy Fralin's take on the SRV Eric Johnson sound as I expected to be. I used it in the bridge of my strat for years and never could love it, though I got some cool sounds with a matchless DC30 and Marshall 18watt. When I got my Blues special you could specify magnets to Lindy and I think I got alnico 2 or 3 slugs. Maybe that was the problem? This pickup has plenty of chime and great output especially in the lower mids but not enough bark for my taste. Still a great pickup that kills a Fender Texas Special.

Winding pickups is pretty easily done. My luthier buddy even made his own winding jig using an old $1 solar calculator display as the counter. If you have the correct components, and you can count and wrap somewhat reliably, ... I have never understood why Lindy Fralin is so renowned. Yes, he seems like a really nice guy on the phone. And I'm sure some of his pickups sound fantastic. But that doesn't mean he is the only one who can make fantastic pickups.
