distort 'em all!
In search of the ultimate Death-Metal-pickup the output may seem the most important feature. The X2N even distorts in clean channesl and pushes every (!) amp into distortion. The character is not really bassy or harsh, despite the extreme output you’ll receive a balanced sound with round mids and some treble bite. If you are looking for a pickup that has tons of output while (surprisingly) providing an almost flat frequency curve - this is the one for you.

best high gain passive pickup on the market, imo
I went with the DiMarzio X2N knowing that Michael Romeo of Symphony X uses it, and also knowing I wanted a dual-rail bridge humbucker due to Dimebag Darrell's influence on me. This pickup is a monster, but I'm also a huge fan of the bright glassy crystal-clear cleans I can get out of it.

In this video you can clearly see him use his most iconic setup a Kramer with a Dimarzio X2N pickup, Jeff has used this setup in not only his red pacer Special, but also his White pacer imperial and the Marilyn Monroe Baretta. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ptPekKOigkQ
In this Instagram post he’s showing a humbucker in his bass with bar poles and thanking DiMazio pickups. They only make two pickups in this design, and as the 2XN is higher output, and Piggy is known for using active pickups, I’m guessing this is what’s in his bass.
As stated in a 1993 Guitar Magazine article about Masters of Reality, "Goss likes DiMarzios because 'they sound like a dime falling into a garbage can.'" These pickups are an important factor in Chris' tone and the overall Masters of Reality sound.
