Lacks the high-end bite for metal tones, and clean tones are way too muddy, unusable for ambient clean tones. AVOID!
This bridge pickup came with the Ibanez RG Prestige that I still have today, and I've tried to make this pickup work for several years before I've had enough of it.
Where do I even begin with this? Palm mutes have absolutely no crunch at all. The pickup sounds way too dark and muddy, resulting in the palm mutes sounding rather flat with no pick attack. And if you thought that was already bad enough, wait until you deal with clean tones. Those are even worse. Don't even bother trying to use it for ambient clean tones, 'cause this pickup will cause a LOT of low-end boominess to your sound that no amount of hi-pass filtering in post will be able to rectify.
This pickup lacks balance in the EQ spectrum, so much in fact that you'll be spending MORE time trying to use EQ to correct the tone and try (and ultimately fail) to add what isn't there - the bite in the treble frequencies.
Want something that sounds better? Go with the Seymour Duncan JB. I use it in both of my Ibanez guitars, and honestly I feel so happy. The JB has much better high-end bite than this excuse of a bridge pickup that is the Tone Zone.
John Petrucci and Paul Gilbert both moved far away from this pickup long ago, and there's a good reason for that.

Some catalogs list the pickups as being the DiMarzio Norton Lite and/or the DiMarzio SFP (Steve's Favorite Pickup) but these are believed to be the same pickups. If you want something that sounds infinitely better than the Tone Zone, go with the JB. The JB sounds tighter with much better high-end bite, and will have far better clean tones than this excuse of a bridge pickup that is the Tone Zone.
