Pretty Darn Impressive for the Price
Been a Metallica fan since the mid-80's and I always wanted a white Explorer. Saw these on the HLK website for $199 and decided "Why not". I figured it would come with issues and I'd just deal with them as long as they weren't major. Well it came, and there were no issues. Even the pickups were decent, better than any Epiphone pups I've ever heard. The fretwork was great, no loose nuts or bolts or screws, no finish flaws. Control knobs were a bit stiff but that's nothing. The neck is 25.5" scale with a 15" radius fretboard and it's very comfortable. No neck dive either thanks to where they positioned the top strap button. Very perceptive, that's the first mod you make on an Explorer right? Moving that dumb strap button to the back of the neck heel. Btw this guitar has a Mahogany body and set neck and it's got a nice heft to it, not too heavy though...if I had to guess I'd say about 8lbs. So anywayI added a set of $28 Musiclily Pro locking tuners from Amazon + Fender strap locks and away I went with zero regrets. Overall I love it, best $258 I've spent in ages (HLK kills you on shipping unfortunately). I was gonna ding them a star for the high shipping rates but can I really? If I had paid $59 to have crap shipped to me maybe but as it turns out I'm really pleased with the guitar. Besides this is a review of the instrument not the shipping rates.
