A shredder’s dream with the polish to back up the hype: the PIA3761 keeps the beloved JEM feel intact, with a fast, familiar neck, stainless frets, rock-solid Edge trem, and a factory setup so dialed-in the reviewer skipped the usual tweaks. The big surprise is the UtoPIA pickups—darker, fatter, and less naturally wiry than classic JEM voices, which may disappoint players expecting instant Evolution-style bite. But engage the high-pass filter and the guitar opens up dramatically, delivering tighter response, sharper articulation, and sparkling cleans. Visually, the Onyx Black finish earns praise for looking classier and more distinct than some louder PIA colors. The catch? It’s highly specific, expensive, and unapologetically a Steve Vai guitar—an instrument that announces exactly what kind of player you are. If that’s your lane, this review says you absolutely want one.
