Description

The Odyssey Mk I Model 2800 by ARP

The ARP Odyssey Mk I Model 2800, also known as the Odyssey Rev1 or “Whiteface,” was one of the earliest duophonic analog synthesizers produced by ARP Instruments in the early 1970s. Designed as a compact and performance-oriented alternative to larger modular systems, the Model 2800 became known for its aggressive tone, expressive pitch control, and distinctive 2-pole filter sound. Its duophonic capability allowed musicians to play two notes simultaneously, which was highly advanced for its time. The Rev1 version is especially valued for its bright, raw character and smooth filter response, making it popular in progressive rock, fusion, and early electronic music. Today, the vintage 2800 is considered one of the most collectible ARP synthesizers due to its historical importance, unique sound, and limited surviving production units.

Korg ARP Odyssey - The Massive Review: Page 3 | MusicTech

musictech.com

The Korg ARP Odyssey Mk I delivers a faithful nod to its vintage roots with a modern twist. It captures the original's iconic sounds and aggressive character, making it a compelling choice for those yearning for classic analog vibes without breaking the bank. While it may not perfectly replicate the depth of the original, the differences are subtle unless directly compared. Its compact design, MIDI, and USB connectivity offer practicality, though its limited polyphony and lack of presets might not suit everyone. For those seeking the authentic Odyssey experience on a budget, it's a standout choice, but explorers of digital versatility might look elsewhere.
