The Krunk/Krynk vintage Soviet-Made Off-Set by Yerevan Musical Instruments Factory in Armenia
The Krunk/Krynk Electric Guitar is a vintage Soviet-made instrument produced in the former USSR, most commonly at the Yerevan Musical Instruments Factory in Armenia during the 1970s and early 1980s. The name Krunk comes from the Armenian word for “crane”, and these guitars are considered rare collectors’ pieces today rather than modern performance instruments.
Built with simple materials like beech or birch bodies and basic hardware, the Krunk guitars reflect the limited industrial resources and design choices of the Soviet musical instrument industry. The necks often lacked adjustable truss rods, the tuners and electronics were basic, and overall quality varies widely they’re frequently described as quirky, collectible, or characterful rather than high-end playing guitars.
Because these were made decades ago and in small numbers for local markets, there’s no standard specification sheet like you’d see for modern guitars many examples on sale today are custom, cobbled together, or vary slightly in specs.
