Description

An 8-in, 8-out MIDI patchbay with extensive MIDI routing and processing capabilities.

Settings are stored in programs which can be stepped through in predefined order, or jumped to by keying in a number or by receiving a MIDI program change from an input. 128 programs are supported.

For each program, any of the following can be applied per MIDI input and/or output port:

  • Routing, splitting, merging, and rechannelizing
  • Keyboard split
  • Velocity processing
  • Transpose
  • Filtering
  • Program change
  • Volume control
  • Sending arbitrary MIDI data

The PMM-88 can be used to instantly reconfigure an entire MIDI rig and send program changes to all attached devices in a live performance scenario.

The PMM-88 supported 220V mains voltage only. It was later reimplemented on a new hardware platform and released as the PMM88-E, with expanded functionality and universal mains voltage support (100V-240V).

MIDItemp PMM88 (SOS May 90)

muzines.co.uk

The MIDITEMP PMM-88 offers a multitude of MIDI routing and merging capabilities, making it a versatile choice for complex setups. However, its outdated design and convoluted user interface can frustrate even seasoned users, with a steep learning curve required to fully utilize its features. While its unique 8-way merging function stands out, potential data loss during heavy use raises concerns. In comparison to competitors, the PMM-88 may not justify its higher price for those who only need basic MIDI functionality. Overall, it excels in performance but falters in practicality, making it a mixed bag for prospective buyers.

Miditemp PMM88 (MT Jun 90)

muzines.co.uk

The MIDITEMP PMM-88 offers solid MIDI management capabilities for expanding studios, featuring an 8x8 matrix that simplifies routing and merging multiple MIDI signals. Its user-friendly design allows for easy patch creation and editing, making it a versatile tool for musicians. However, the interface can become cumbersome with its multi-function buttons and lacks clarity in LED indicators for routing, which can hinder quick adjustments during live settings. While it's a robust unit that performs reliably, potential buyers should weigh its higher price against simpler alternatives and consider whether the PMM-88's 8x8 configuration meets their needs. Overall, it's commendable but not without its quirks.
