Comparisons

  • The DJM-900 Nexus lacks Rekordbox DVS hardware unlock, unlike the DJM-750MK2, potentially impacting integration with certain setups.

    Source
  • Allen & Heath mixers, like the DB4, offer digital inputs, providing an alternative with potentially better sound quality and versatility.

    Source
  • The DJM-900NXS2 features an excellent output limiter and 'clip' warning lights, making it sound better than the NXS at high levels.

    Source
  • The V10 is noted as being the only DJ mixer with balanced digital output, providing superior sound quality through digital pathways compared to analog options.

    Source
  • DJs note that the V10 is becoming the industry standard at larger house and techno events, often replacing the Nexus 2 in such settings.

  • The DJM-900NXS includes a gate/compressor sound color FX, which is absent in the NXS2.

    Source
  • The DJM V10 includes a 4-band EQ and a built-in compressor, enhancing its sound shaping capabilities beyond the DJM-900 Nexus 2.

    Source
  • The V10 offers separate headphone cues (A and B), which facilitate smoother transitions and collaborative performances without interrupting other DJs.

    Source
  • Unlike the DJM-900 Nexus 2, the V10 has a master isolator built-in, which typically requires an RMX1000 on the Nexus for similar functionality.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • The NXS2's higher cost may not be justified unless used for professional events or club setups where top DJs perform.

    Source

Use cases and applications

Review: Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus - DJ TechTools

djtechtools.com

The Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus is a powerful, Traktor Certified mixer that impresses with improved post fader effects and robust MIDI connectivity, making it a top choice for club settings. While it commands a hefty price and features uninspiring faders, its enhanced audio quality and versatile effects ensure it remains a formidable contender in the DJ booth.

Gorgeous!

Cant go wrong, built like a tank and networkable to the CDJ's so the effects stay in time. In terms of creativity, software controllers may surpass it, but the sound of the effects are analogue and studio grade.

Industry standard, unbelievable quality and durability.

Cant go wrong, built like a tank and networkable to the CDJ's so the effects stay in time. In terms of creativity, software controllers may surpass it, but the sound of the effects are analogue and studio grade. I often route my daw into the mixer for the reverb. It reminds me of those old Alesis verbs that made the sound of modern music. .

Simply the best club mixer

The Pioneer DJM 900 nexus offers great build quality with good effects options and a solid feel. The on-board soundcard allows easy integration with both Traktor and Serato and can also be used for many other purposes such as recording mixes to a computer.

Main work horse mixer

My normal rider spec mixer for big shows and club performances. Very clean, easy to manoeuvre layout with powerful beatlocked effects (especially when used with Rekordbox analysed tracks!). My main plus point about this mixer is it's extensive MIDI capabilities. An absolute essential for the AV shows!

franco_banda

Awesome, solid gear.

This is an incredible mixer for all scenarios. However, I find it EXTREMELY annoying that Pioneer does not have 64 bit drivers for its soundcard. They told me to use Ableton in 32 bit version, and that sucks. I wish it had more software support.

djdumusic

I use an Allen Heath DB4 sometimes but paling in the US so much I stick with the 900 to make everyone happy :)

Pioneer DJM-900NEXUS

The 900 NEXUS is literally the heartbeat of my whole live show. Every live audio, VTS, mics, is patched and routed through the 900 and the soundcard is the powerhouse pushing all the audio through my Macbook into the house PA. I'm confident I push the 900 far beyond it was ever intended to be pushed.

Epic Mixer for Epic DJ Sets

This mixer is so much fun to DJ with. The best of the best, industry standard aside - DJing wouldn't be the same without it. Great FX and smooth controls.
