Features and functionality

  • The StudioLive 32R offers flexible processing options like per-channel compression/EQ, but lacks physical inserts compared to X32's 6/8 inserts.

    Source
  • The Presonus 32R features 4 internal effects engines that can be configured flexibly, allowing for individualized FX mixes in IEMs, such as reverb and delay preferences.

    Source
  • Despite its versatility, the StudioLive 32R inputs can only handle up to +12dBu without clipping, which may not accommodate high-level modular signals effectively.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • StudioLive 32R's Universal Control app has usability issues, lacking offline editing capabilities and a user-friendly interface compared to Behringer's Mixing Station.

    Source
  • AVB protocol on the Presonus is incompatible with Behringer/Midas' AES50, affecting networking with other consoles during setups.

    Source
  • The StudioLive 32R supports AVB for 32-channel audio transfer, allowing integration with AVB-compatible devices, enabling expansive channel setups.

    Source

Build quality

  • Some users report issues with PreSonus hardware reliability, including scene loading glitches and auto-sensing input problems affecting sound during performances.

    Source
  • The Presonus 32R's front-panel inputs can lead to cable management issues when using rack-mounted splitters, resulting in a cluttered setup.

    Source

User experience

  • PreSonus support is criticized for difficulty in accessing help without a registered device, impacting user satisfaction.

    Source
  • Owners report that the 32R's lack of true line inputs, which route signals through mic preamps, can limit the input levels it can handle without distortion.

    Source

Comparisons

  • M32/X32's workflow, including offline showfile editing, is preferred over StudioLive 32R, which struggles with scene management and lacks Windows AVB drivers.

    Source

    Source
  • In terms of handling line levels, the StudioLive 32R is outperformed by the Focusrite 18i8, which can manage up to +26dBu, making it more suitable for high-output sources.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For compact, flyable rigs, the StudioLive 32R's smaller size is beneficial, but its reliability issues make the X32 a more trusted choice for touring.

    Source
  • Touring musicians find the Presonus 32R effective for creating a complete IEM setup, especially when needing more than 16 inputs without additional stageboxes.

    Source
  • The StudioLive 32R's 16 aux/mix outputs are highly valued for modular setups, offering extensive routing flexibility not easily found in other rack units.

Only time will tell, it's still very new

It was the only rack mixer I could find with enough inputs for synths. lets see how this goes, I know Presonus is good. I purchased two of them so the price hurt but it may really be a god-send.
