Comparisons
-
M32/X32's workflow, including offline showfile editing, is preferred over StudioLive 32R, which struggles with scene management and lacks Windows AVB drivers.
Source -
In contrast to the X32, the Presonus 32R is favored for its compact 2U form factor, which is beneficial for lighter travel setups.
Source -

Use cases and applications
-
For compact, flyable rigs, the StudioLive 32R's smaller size is beneficial, but its reliability issues make the X32 a more trusted choice for touring.
Source -
Touring musicians find the Presonus 32R effective for creating a complete IEM setup, especially when needing more than 16 inputs without additional stageboxes.
Source -
The StudioLive 32R's 16 aux/mix outputs are highly valued for modular setups, offering extensive routing flexibility not easily found in other rack units.

Only time will tell, it's still very new
It was the only rack mixer I could find with enough inputs for synths. lets see how this goes, I know Presonus is good. I purchased two of them so the price hurt but it may really be a god-send.
