  • The Soundcraft UI24R allows easy multitrack recording by simply plugging in a USB drive, arming tracks, and pressing record, eliminating the need for external recorders.

    Source
  • The UI24R supports stereo configurations for instruments, which can significantly enhance sound quality, as noted with electronic drum kits.

    Source
  • The ability to use compression on subgroups with the UI24R can help create a cohesive "glue" for the overall mix.

    Source
  • The unit's preamps are Studer-designed, known for clarity, and comparable to those in high-end Soundcraft boards, delivering excellent sound quality, especially for multitrack recordings.

Software and compatibility

  • Default settings on the UI24R ensure that only gain is affected in recordings, aligning with standard practices on many digital mixers.

    Source
  • Using an external 5 GHz router significantly improves WiFi connectivity issues, especially in crowded venues where the internal WiFi struggles.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • The internal power distribution can be a weak point; using a powered USB hub is recommended to prevent reboots due to excessive power draw from USB devices.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Installing a GDSTIME 60mm 12V fan can prevent overheating in hot environments, but it should have its own power source to avoid affecting the unit's power supply.

    Source

Comparisons

  • The Soundcraft UI24R is contrasted with the Mackie DL32S, with some users preferring the latter for its perceived reliability and setup ease in remote gigs.

Review: Soundcraft Ui24R 24-Channel Digital Mixer - Church Production Magazine

churchproduction.com

The Soundcraft Ui24R earns high marks for its sleek design and comprehensive feature set, including 22 analog inputs, built-in effects, and robust channel processing. It's ideal for simple applications without the need for audio-over-IP or expansion. The intuitive web browser-based interface, while innovative, has a learning curve, with some navigation quirks and patching system frustrations. Recording capabilities are extensive, though multi-track recording via USB sticks can be unreliable. Sound quality is impressive, with good preamps and effects, though preamp gain changes can produce clicks. Overall, it's a solid mixer for the price, offering great value without compromising on sound quality.

musictech.com

The Soundcraft Ui24R impresses with its versatile features, including a remote-controlled mixer, multitrack recording, and robust connectivity options. Its compact 4U rackmount design is ideal for both studio and live settings. With Wi-Fi connectivity for up to 10 devices and integration of Harman components like Studer preamps and Lexicon effects, it offers great value at £869. I love it but...

it does almost everything i want it to do but be careful with your usb sticks it already destroyed one of mine, it is also a bit picky when it comes to usb sticks, i wanted a big 128gb one and they are mostly formatted in exFat ... but the ui24 only takes Fat32 so i had to do it differently and now i never trust that thing. My first recording job went very well but i will get a fat32 stick some day ... idk... also some pages are a bit misleading and YOU HAVE TO use the standard browser on your tablet or phone. Thetablet will open up automatically a window with the mixer after you connected the Wifi but this version sucks, so close it and use a normal browser and all of a sudden it works perfectly. Now that i know its downsides i am happy with it but it gave me a big headache at the beginning

Great for live or studio

I bought one of these units last year and quickly realised that the mixer and integrated stage box could be used for live recording on to an USB stick or memory card. The UI24R has its own Wi-Fi hotspot too, so its easy to connect to and 'control' from any tablet or PC. Connecting is via a browser, so you can use the unit on almost ANY interface regardless of platform as long as there's a browser on board with Wi-Fi.

You can record full 24 tracks and play them back. There are multiple effects in the unit and needless to say this is a very powerful low cost solution for live recording or studio work.
