Critic Reviews

Rob Papen Blue 2

soundonsound.com

Rob Papen Blue 2 elevates its predecessor with a robust update that combines FM, phase distortion, wave-shaping, and subtractive synthesis into a user-friendly instrument. Notable for its expanded oscillator section, enhanced GUI, and an impressive assortment of presets, Blue 2 also introduces new features like wave sequencing and X-Y vector modulation. The synth's layout remains intuitive, making it accessible despite its complexity. While it could benefit from the ability to save custom Algorithm Matrices and better MIDI controller latching, these are minor drawbacks in an otherwise stellar package. Ideal for those seeking versatility and rich sonic textures without overburdening CPU resources.

"I use Ableton Suite 9 currently. Large range of synthesizers, favourites include IL Harmor, Roy [sic] Papen's Blue 2, Adam Szabo JP6K, Serum, Spire, and of course Massive. As for processing I use Fab Filter Pro-Q 2 as my primary equalizer, Camel Audio Camelcrusher and Sugarbytes WOW for distortion, iZotope RX2 and Ozone 6 suites for various purposes, Valhalla shimmer for reverb along with Room and Ubermod for spatializing. Oh and BazzISM and Drumatic for creating drum samples And thanks to Eoin (Noisestorm) I just started using oxford transmod for transient modification."
