Absolute tank of a PA head.

This thing has been beaten so badly so many times- It's done easily over 300 shows over the years- sometimes with a 7 band bill. 1000 watts (500 per side) is an super portable package. The 5 stars is not just for the unit but also for serving the role I got it for so well cuz, well? Like most people making a living in music I wear a ton of different hats- I've been a professional recording engineer, booking agent, manager, mixer, producer, etc. etc. Think the only thing I haven't done that's fairly common is work at a music store. Having the ability to host small and/or private shows & events be it in a venue without a sound system or maybe most fun - outside w/ a BBQ is an absolute must. It not only supports the work I'm doing I get more (see: all) work from one gig leading to the next. Being able to do that reliably is essential. The Soundcraft Gigrac sounds fantastic and it is bullet proof- Very important when it's principally used around a ton of alcohol.

That and the built in FX are not bad at all either. I'd be nice if I could use 2 at a time but I can't be too troubled by that cuz there are always other ways to work around that. There are better ways to go sure, but for a all in one box that you can easily sling over your shoulder?! It just kicks ass. Really easy to ring out a room with the 7 band (7 for each channel) graphic EQ and the parametric EQ is no slouch either- much like a lot of Soundcraft stuff. If you need something that sounds great, is simple, rugged and versatile I don't know how you could go wrong.

Some specs and copy from Soundcraft:

Dubbed ‘The Box that Rocks’, the new family member has the same cool styling of the GigRac 300 and 600, but is a more powerful full stereo version, featuring expanded 3-band EQ on the inputs, two 7-band graphic equalisers and 10 high-quality preset digital effects. The 1000st is slightly higher than its brothers at 5U (8.75 inches/223mm) but still this tiny package delivers awesome power and performance, with the ability to be slung over your shoulder.

As with the GigRac 300 and 600 models, there are two output signal paths, one for the main front-of-house output and one for stage monitors. In normal stereo use, the two power amps deliver a full 500W of power (@ 4 ohms) to the Main (FOH) output, but the 1000st can be switched to provide 500 watts to the Main output and 500 watts to the Monitor outputs.

Other additional features include pan controls for the inputs to the stereo bus, a stereo graphic EQ on the main output and a 7-band mono graphic EQ on the monitor output, 12-segment bar graph meters for both Main and Monitor outputs, a stereo playback input (for CD playback, for example) and a stereo submix input. In standby mode all channels are muted until the band is ready to play, while the playback input remains active for interval music.

Don’t worry about the weight, however, as the 1000st features a lightweight switched-mode PSU, derived from years of successful switched-mode design at Soundcraft and BSS.
