Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Review 2023 - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

Squier's Jaguar Vintage Modified Bass delivers solid tone and build quality at an enticing price. With retro aesthetics inspired by '70s Fender models, it offers comfortable playability and versatile tones thanks to its P/J pickup configuration. While the tone knob's notched positions provide consistency, they might limit some tonal flexibility. The Jaguar Special SS variant, with its short scale, caters to those seeking a more compact feel and a bass-heavy sound. However, its bridge pickup lacks the punch of the neck pickup. Despite minor drawbacks, these basses stand as strong contenders for budget-conscious musicians seeking quality and style.

TRY IT!!

I was trading in gear at my local music store and had enough store credit to get a serious discount on some gear. I thought to myself "Oh I would love to get a cheap squire bass and mod the hell out of it" So I started trying all the affinity jazz and P basses but then I stumbled into the vintage modified and classic vibe section. WOW was I blown away. The bass boost circuit makes this bass so powerful and the the p-split pickups provide all the treble to make you a slap machine. I still plan on modding this bass because as expected the hardware was made on the cheap, and maybe upgrading the pickups. The feel of the neck and balance of this bass felt so similar to an american standard it blew me away. Thats what really sealed the deal for me. So if you get the chance to try this bass out you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Versatile and formidable, great for beginner and intermediate level bassists for an affordable price.

2 volume knobs for respective P and J pickups, a tone knob and gain knob. Extremely fun to play with and experiment.

Great bass

I have this bass in a sunburst finish with a black pickguard. Sounds great, plays well, what more could you ask for in a bass?
