Is ThorpyFX’s Boneyard Fuzz the ultimate take on the Tone Bender? | Guitar World

guitarworld.com

The ThorpyFX Boneyard Fuzz delivers a versatile array of classic Tone Bender tones packed into a well-built and compact pedal. Its three germanium transistors and thoughtful controls allow players to easily switch between various fuzz styles, making it a chameleon for fuzz enthusiasts. While the premium price tag of £299 may raise eyebrows, it's justified when considering the quality components and unique sound versatility offered. However, some may find it a bit over the budget for a fuzz pedal. Overall, the Boneyard Fuzz stands out as a worthy investment for those seeking rich, vintage fuzz tones.

Thorpy FX unveils new compact fuzz pedal: The Boneyard

guitar.com

While the Thorpy FX Boneyard Fuzz aims to be a versatile fuzz pedal that honors the Tonebender legacy, it ultimately falls short for some users. Its four controls—Level, Attack, Feed, and Tone—offer a decent range, but the complexity may deter beginners. Additionally, its hefty price tag of £299, combined with limited availability, raises questions about its value. The pedal's construction is commendable, utilizing quality components, yet the lack of stock replenishment suggests a hasty release. In a saturated market, the Boneyard may not stand out as the definitive fuzz solution many hoped for.

Best Tonebender I've Ever Played.

I was initially a little unsure as to whether or not to jump on the Boneyard. The price of fuzz pedals in 2022 is going absolutely bananas, and this was no exception. The first day it was released, scalpers had these selling on Reverb for anywhere between $1,600 - $2k. Not a fan. And while limited, those were all later serial numbers into the 200's. They have not sold if you still wish to see them. But my friend Scott Hager who owns Axe & You Shall Recieve urged me that they were in fact amazing. I trust his ears, and he still had stock at the usual retail price. $500 is still a lot for a fuzz pedal, but I felt much safer about that. And I ended up with serial #35, so the Reverb scalpers could suck the big one. This was my first Thorpy pedal. Unboxing it, I could immediately tell the level of care and detail that was taken into the construction of this pedal. Adrian Thorpe is ex-military, and this thing lived up to that standard in spades. You could kill and elk with this thing and it would be fine. The box with the Ammo can aesthetic was completely on-brand. So I knew it would be a good collector's piece if nothing else. But then I plugged it in... This thing has 3 germanium transistors, with the option to switch down to 2 for the Mk 1.5 Tonebender circuit, which is really more Fuzz Faces-ish. Plus the second footswitch to bypass the tone stack altogether for a clarity high end volume boost. Plus the feed control to blend between the 3 transistors... This thing really truly is all the famous Tonebender circuits in one pedal, but with the ability to sculpt your own sound out of it. I've played it through my '63 Brownface Concert, a mid 60's AC-30, and it just KILLS. I've run it on bass as well and you can truly do anything with it. You can do Gary Clark Jr all the way through to spitty Black Keys & White Stripes, later Pink Floyd, with ease... and in the 2 transistor mode, it cleans up exactly the way you'd want to. This Boneyard quickly became an integral part of my rig. I love that I can just keep one pedal on and just use my guitars knobs. I paired it with my Benson Germanium Boost just for one extra level of Germ. dirt and I've been in tone heaven. I cannot recommend this Fuzz enough. It is limited, and right now the scalpers have LUDICROUS prices on them, but if one comes up for a decent price, I would pounce on it if I were you.
