Description
The Vintage Coily Hollow-Body Made in Japan by Univox
The Univox Coily is a vintage Japanese-made hollowbody electric guitar produced during the late 1960s and 1970s by the Matsumoku factory. Inspired by guitars like the Epiphone Casino and Gibson ES-style instruments, the Coily became known for its lightweight construction, warm resonance, and distinctive retro styling. It features a fully hollow thinline maple body with dual pickups that deliver bright, jangly tones ideal for blues, garage rock, indie, and classic rock music. Many players consider the Coily a hidden “lawsuit-era” gem because of its quality Japanese craftsmanship and vintage character at relatively affordable prices. Its Bigsby-style vibrato system, bolt-on maple neck, and unique Matsumoku electronics give it a sound and feel that stands apart from modern semi-hollow guitars.
