Description

The Gibson ES-339 delivers a vintage resonance that leaves musicians spellbound. This semi-hollowbody electric guitar is a compact, more manageable version of the classic ES-335, ideal for those who prefer a sleeker instrument without compromising on tone. The 57 Classic humbuckers enhance the woody character of the semi-hollow maple and poplar body, providing a rich, harmonious tone similar to the iconic, vintage PAF humbuckers from the 1950s.

The Gibson ES-339's mahogany neck sports a rounded "C" profile, offering a fast and familiar feel that will appeal to most guitarists. Its 12" radius rosewood fretboard facilitates smooth bends and low-action playing, making this guitar a go-to choice for a wide variety of musical styles.

Decked out with robust hardware, this guitar ensures rock-solid tuning stability, thanks to the Grover Rotomatic tuners with kidney buttons. The tune-o-matic bridge and stop tailpiece anchor the strings efficiently, transferring vibrations for a resonant, ambient tone with distinct articulation.

Critic Reviews

The Big Review: Gibson’s new made-in-Nashville ES models

guitar.com

Gibson's ES-339 shines as a compact alternative to the classic ES-335, boasting all the beloved semi-hollow body features in a smaller package. Its construction retains the iconic tonewoods and layout, offering a solid blend of vintage aesthetics with modern playability. The guitar's 57 Classic humbuckers deliver clear, punchy tones ideal for blues and rock, although they could benefit from more vintage tonal depth. While the neck is robust, its unrolled binding might feel a bit stiff initially. For those seeking a semi-solid feel in a more manageable size, the ES-339 hits the mark, though purists might yearn for more nuanced tonal characteristics. Overall, it's a well-crafted instrument that offers excellent value, balancing classic charm with contemporary sensibility.

Gibson ES-339 Review - Newer Addition to the ES Line - Killer Guitar Rigs

killerguitarrigs.com

The Gibson ES-339 impresses as a more ergonomic alternative to the classic ES-335, offering the same beloved tones and style in a smaller package. Its compact size enhances playability without sacrificing the rich, resonant sound associated with its larger sibling, thanks to its ’57 Classic humbuckers. While the craftsmanship is top-notch, featuring a striking Cherry finish and quality hardware, the price point may deter beginners. However, for seasoned players seeking a semi-hollow Gibson without the bulk, the ES-339 is a worthy investment that promises to hold its value over time.

what can't it do?

I love this guitar, mine came stock with the classic 57 pickups, which, in my opinion can do no wrong. I find myself reaching for this guitar to record lightning fast punk and metal tracks for the certain je ne c'est quoi you get with semi bodies medium gain pickups and loud freakin amps!

Great Guitar

Sounds 335 fantastic with great playability and looks - but a little smaller in size, not tone.
