Review: TG12345 Channel Strip by Waves | Audio Plugin Guy

audiopluginguy.com

The Waves EMI TG12345 Channel Strip is a powerhouse plugin that combines stellar EQ, compression, and stereo spread features, making it a standout choice for any serious mixer. With its rich analog vibe, the EQ is both broad and effective, while the compressor impresses with minimal tweaking needed. However, it demands a hefty CPU load, and understanding its full potential requires a learning curve involving manuals and videos. Despite this, its ability to simplify and enrich mixes makes it a must-have for those willing to invest the time to master it. This is the plugin to rule them all.

Waves: An "Abbey Road" Plug-In? G. Stanfield Reviews Waves Emulation of the EMI TG12345 Channel Strip | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

The Waves EMI TG12345 Channel Strip plug-in captures the vintage vibe of the legendary Abbey Road console, delivering a familiar sound palette reminiscent of classic Beatles and Pink Floyd albums. Its strengths lie in its authentic EQ and compression capabilities, offering both classic and modern sound textures. The plug-in shines when used across multiple tracks, bringing cohesion and a rich, vintage tone. However, its limited control set may not appeal to users seeking extensive modern flexibility. Overall, for its price, the TG12345 is a valuable tool for those seeking an easy-to-use, nostalgic sound with a touch of modern aggression.

Use a little for a lotta magic

This is one of those plugins that definitely adds flavor to whatever you put it on, but so far I haven't found anything I couldn't apply it to! It's pretty "in your face" and doesn't take much to go overboard, but spending time with it will result in a lot of great warmth and analog-esque tones to whatever you happen to be mixing. I've personally loved it on vocals, acoustic guitar, and percussion the best. But well worth every penny, grab it on the next Waves sale!

Channel Strip, Eh?

So this was on sale and on impulse I bought it. Plus I love the fucking Beatles, I mean who doesn't like those 4 four friendly chaps right mate? I think they written a #1 dance hit back in their day. Anyway and I think Pink Fn Floyd recorded at Abbey Road and the name says it all, doesn't it? I mean Abbey Fucking Road right? It's like you put this on a channel and your tracks change man. I mean like they sound one way and then the other. And this thing is bully on snares. Bully.

jimmarchi1

yes, Floyd used the solid state desk at Abbey Road on dark side, I believe its at Barefoot in LA now and belongs to Eric Valentine who did some QOTSA records

Just amazing...

Run any drums through the compressor and don't hesitate to turn the DRIVE-knob. The most analog sounding VST I own. I even prefer the drive section to the Soundtoys Decapitator.

Tasty Analogue Modelled Goodness

Whilst it isn't transporting you to the cockpit of Studio One, it certainly comes within the ball park.
