Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro Closed Back Headphones (32 Ohm).

Build quality

  • Faux leather pads enhance noise isolation, but can cause discomfort in warm/humid conditions; consider climate before purchasing.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Velour pads from the 80 or 250 ohm models are recommended for increased comfort and reduced sweating.

    Source
  • Velcroing a small amp or DAC like the Fiio E10K under a desk provides easy access and enhances sound quality without clutter.

    Source
  • Some owners modify the 80 Ohm version by cutting the cable and installing a 3.5mm plug for customizable cable lengths.

    Source

User experience

  • Users report difficulty reaching high volumes without distortion, suggesting a need for amplification despite the low 32-ohm impedance.

    Source
  • Users report that modding the 80 Ohm version with damping and alternative pads can significantly alter and improve sound characteristics.

    Source
  • Users with long hair report that despite sweating, the headphones remain comfortable and the pads are washable.

    Source
  • Several users express satisfaction with the 32-ohm version's performance when paired with portable, less powerful headphone amps.

    Source
  • The DT770 Pro's bass is described as non-hyped and neutral, avoiding the bass-heavy sound common in other closed-back headphones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Compared to mainstream headphones like the Sony XM4, these provide superior isolation and clarity, especially for metal and rock music.

    Source
  • Sony MDR-7506 headphones are preferred for field use due to their compact folding design and superior sound isolation compared to DT770s.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • Height adjustment is designed for infrequent use, maintaining position well but requiring effort to change.

    Source
  • The 32 Ohm version has a shorter cable, making it more convenient for portable use compared to the 80 Ohm version with a longer cable.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The 80 Ohm version, while less portable due to its cable length, offers more desk mobility and is optimal for stationary PC use.

    Source
  • The DT770 Pro headphones are considered too bulky for field recording, as they do not fold up for easy transport.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Dedicated DACs can provide a cleaner signal than motherboard outputs, even when using the 80 Ohm version directly from a PC.

Critic Reviews

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 32 Ohm Review — A more Portable-Friendly DT770? | by Alex Rowe | Medium

medium.com

The Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 32 Ohm headphones are praised for their portable-friendly design, offering the same beloved sound signature as their higher impedance siblings. Ideal for mobile use, they boast precise, extended bass, detailed mids, and crisp highs, making them perfect for critical listening. The leatherette pads provide better isolation but can be sweatier than the velour ones. While the non-detachable cable is a minor gripe, the overall build quality is robust, featuring retro aesthetics and user-replaceable parts. A solid choice for those seeking reliable, high-quality sound on the go.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 ohm Review | Tested

techgearlab.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 Ohm headphones impress with a flat frequency response, ideal for audiophiles seeking detailed sound without embellishment. They're comfortable for extended wear, perfect for studio use. However, their bulkiness and mediocre noise isolation make them less travel-friendly. If precise audio monitoring is your priority, these are a great choice, but casual listeners might find the sound too flat and not engaging enough.

positive

Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 Ohm Review | headphonecheck.com

headphonecheck.com

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 Ohm headphones offer classic design with high comfort and solid build quality. They excel in sound attenuation, making them suitable for studio and mobile use, though their fixed, short cable limits portability. The sound profile is pleasant, with rich bass and clear treble, but lacks neutrality and mid-range presence, which might not meet professional studio standards. While not ideal for critical listening, these headphones shine for casual hi-fi enthusiasts and on mobile devices. Overall, they are a reliable choice with a few trade-offs for professional applications.

Good headphones, short cable for studio

These are really made for mobile, but the 32ohm impedance matched my RME so I thought I'd try these rather than the 80ohm. They are brighter sounding than the AudioTechnica M50 but that can be attributed to the wider frequency response-- up to 35kHz rather than 28kHz. They need about 7db more output gain than the M50 for creating similar reference listening levels.

Good.

Cheap, robust headphones that get the job done.
