Critic Reviews

Akai Miniak

soundonsound.com

The Akai Pro MINIAK Virtual Analog Synthesizer offers excellent analogue modeling with versatile modulation and flexible filters. Its inclusion of a sequencer, arpeggiator, and rhythm programmer adds to its appeal. However, the reliance on a single encoder for programming is cumbersome, and the lack of USB connectivity and editor software shows its age. While the vocoder doesn't stand out, the overall sonic capabilities make it a solid choice for those seeking a compact synth with a classic sound. Its feature set closely mirrors the older Alesis Micron, making it more of an evolution than a revolution.

Akai MiniAK review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

The Akai Pro MINIAK excels in delivering powerful, diverse sounds with its robust build and appealing design, making it a great choice for musicians seeking fresh sonic textures. However, its potential is marred by a cumbersome programming interface and a lackluster vocoder. The absence of a USB port is a glaring drawback for modern connectivity needs, and the screen's poor readability further detracts from the user experience. While the sequencer adds significant value, programming it can be a chore due to the small display. Despite these issues, the synth's sound quality remains a strong selling point, especially for those who prioritize presets and sound versatility over ease of programming.

2nd synth purchased for my 80's cover band project.

Got this on ebay for $200 brand new in the box. What a steal! The pitch and mod wheels have a nice feel. It's just as powerful as the Alesis Micron and adds more presets and memory as well as random pattern for the arpeggiator. 25 multi-timbral parts (limited by 8 voice polyphony). For my use I won't be touching the sequencer or drum machine in this thing. It can do allot.

soundsfun

Oldy but a goody

You have to play with setting up your own sequences, patterns, beats etc. The ones it comes with are hella janky. I use it to form melody's and Harmony's without having to plug my computer in, go analog!!

jimmarchi1

why would you want to use factory presets... ever?

soundsfun

I barely do, however I'm first and foremost a musician so spending all my time moving knobs around getting the perfect sounds isnt my fav. I'd rather spend it forming the actual song vs the sounds in the song. Some companies have well thought out presets which saves time even if I'm still twistin a few knobs to get a better or different sound it still starts in a much more mastered sounding realm. I luv tha dam thing though otherwise I wouldn't lug it all over the place
