Description
The Behringer Pro-800 synthesizer is a modern marvel that pays homage to the golden age of analog synthesis. With its 8-voice polyphonic design, each voice is powered by two VCOs, creating a robust total of 16 oscillators. This setup allows for a lush, detuned sound palette that can transform your studio into an analog paradise. The Pro-800 faithfully emulates the sound of its 1982 predecessor with a pure analog signal path, while also injecting contemporary features like MIDI connectivity and a hefty 400 patch memory.
Dive into a universe of sound possibilities with its array of waveform options, including saw, triangle, and pulse, each with independent pulse width modulation. The unique Poly-Mod function offers further sound design capabilities, letting you modulate Oscillator A’s frequency and filter cutoff using Oscillator B. For those looking to push the envelope, the Pro-800 also boasts a 4-pole lowpass filter with a 24dB/octave slope and self-resonance, opening up an extensive range of sound-shaping options.
The Pro-800 is not just about sound; it's built for performance. It features a polyphonic 2-track sequencer and a versatile arpeggiator to inspire creativity and movement in your compositions. Designed with a Eurorack form factor, it fits seamlessly into modular setups, making it perfect for both studio and live environments.

Great little synth both for beginners and seasoned synthesists.
Why do I think so?
It is small; I love the size. It never feels cramped to me, but it is no bigger than it needs to be either. What especially like is that it comes without a keyboard. No money or space wasted on keys you'll never use, because you need more keys, or bigger keys or just no keys at all.
There is a 3-tier rack kit for behringer synths with the same form factor, like the neuron, CAT, Pro~1, Kobol Expander, Model D and Wasp. That allows for a lot of synth-power on a small desk...
The build quality; it is great, considering price. This is not a sequential prophet 5 obviously. That one is build like a tank and it sounds lush. (And weighs a ton.) But this one is much the same in terms of functionality and costs less than 10 percent of the prophet 5 (desktop module). Once I've sampled or recorded it into a track I'm not sure I'll hear the difference. Yes, the knobs feel cheaper, but is is sturdy enough.
For beginners this classic layout is really easy to get to grips with. It is not so complicated that you can't learn by simply turning knobs and listening how the sound changes. This also means that once you've mastered it you can program sounds really fast.
Is there nothing to annoy me?
Well, if I'd not updated the firmware I'd probably would have send it back because in the old firmware the envelopes are really sluggish.
Also, the manual is not great. It does have everything in it, but it is a bit all over the place. Not so good for beginners. But for a great primer on subtractive synthesis you could download the manual for the Clavia Nordlead.
I would rather have that din-midi input on the back.
My personal take on the Pro-800 and making music with hardware in general.
This synth made it really clear to me why I'm much more productive using hardware than using software. It is not that software does not sound as good. I'm not sure I hear a difference. But most software instruments are so damn complicated, there's just too much to learn and too much to fiddle with.
And because their software is so hard to program manufacturers bundle them with more and more presets which in turn leads to more and more complicated preset management tools.
For me this is all taking away from the joy of making music with synthesizers. 32 or 64 slots with good starting points for your own programming is really more than enough.
