Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer Xenyx Q802 USB.

Features and functionality

  • The Q802USB only routes the mixed master signal over USB, limiting separation of individual inputs in DAW software.

    Source
  • To achieve two discrete mono channels, pan inputs to L and R channels to record separately.

    Source
  • The mixer requires microphones to be connected to the XLR inputs for pre-amplification, as headsets with electret condenser mics need to be powered by 5-9V, not the mixer's 48V phantom power.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • On Windows, ASIO drivers like Asio4All are needed, while Mac users can operate driver-free.

    Source
  • Recording into GarageBand on iPhone might produce crackly audio; ensure it's set to 16 bit 48kHz to prevent issues.

    Source
  • Successful use of the mixer with headsets requires ensuring the correct input selection on the computer, confirming the mixer is the chosen recording device in system settings.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Owners use the mixer for integrating smartphone calls with Zoom/Telegram/Teams using a Samson Q2U mic.

    Source
  • The mixer can be effectively used in churches with multiple mic inputs and a line input for a piano.

    Source
  • The mixer is used successfully in quiet home demo setups and practice space PAs, indicating its suitability for low-noise environments.

    Source
  • Users attempting to record audio with gaming headsets found that their microphones required additional pre-amplification, as they are not designed for direct line-level input.

    Source

User experience

  • Some users have experienced significant noise and crackling, which may be linked to how the mixer was stored or its connection with the USB.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Noise issues may be reduced by disconnecting the USB or using a power conditioner to address potential issues with PCs or wiring.

    Source
  • For optimal use, headsets should be connected using XLR adapters rather than TRRS splitters, as the former aligns better with the mixer's input requirements.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Consider using a battery-powered 9V phantom injector or an adapter to convert 48V phantom power to 9V for compatibility with electret condenser microphones.

Behringer Xenyx Q802USB Mixer – The Podcasters' Studio

thepodcastersstudio.com

The Behringer Xenyx Q802USB mixer impresses with its affordability and features, making it a solid pick for podcasters on a budget. Its Xenyx preamps deliver ample gain for dynamic mics, ensuring clean audio even at high levels. While the build quality might not be top-tier, it stands up well in most setups. However, there is a slight hiccup with the phantom power light issue, suggesting potential quality control concerns. Its intuitive setup, especially on Mac without driver needs, and handy features like one-knob compression and FX send for mix-minus setups, add to its appeal. Overall, it's a feature-rich, budget-friendly option, albeit with minor quirks.

Behringer XENYX Q802USB Review: An In-Depth Buying Guide - Audio Egghead

audioegghead.com

The Behringer XENYX Q802USB offers an appealing entry point for podcasters with its solid design and reasonably priced feature set, including good mic preamps and onboard compression. It delivers basic mixing capabilities and flexibility without overwhelming users, though its limited channel count and minor issues like potential wobbling on flat surfaces may deter some. While it performs well for its price, alternatives like the Yamaha MG10XU and Alesis MultiMix 8 USB FX provide more features and inputs, depending on your needs. Overall, the XENYX Q802USB offers decent value, but consider other options if you require more advanced features.

It does its job since 6 years

The USB Port of my unit is a little wonky and the control room output is pretty much done. But man, it stands like a champ. But it really would be nice if it would output multistream and not just a stereo stream. But ay, I paid 90€ for it, what did I expect?
