Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Behringer XENYX 1002B.

Software and compatibility

  • The Behringer XENYX 1002B lacks a USB output, complicating direct digital connections to computers without additional interfaces.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The 1002B is an analog board, which may not directly interface well with modern digital setups, potentially resulting in poor recording quality.

    Source
  • The XENYX 1002B's main outputs are designed for TRS cables, despite a manual typo suggesting TS; using TRS reduces noise risk.

    Source
  • The mixer features electronically balanced outputs, which may function as impedance-balanced, resembling Citronic CL82dsp's design.

    Source
  • Clipping the output can add a unique industrial-strength distortion without damaging the mixer, inspired by techniques used with Neve 1073 preamps.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • The mixer might not be ideal for podcasting with five mics without a separate digital interface, as typical computer mic inputs are inadequate for high-quality sound capture.

    Source
  • Users planning to connect powered speakers like Mackie SRM550 should use TRS to TRS/XLR cables for optimal performance.

    Source
  • Testing different input channels can help diagnose distortion issues, as it may vary across channels.

    Source

Comparisons

  • It's been suggested to consider digital I/O interfaces like the preSonus 25c USB-C for better integration with digital recording software.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners find consulting with audio tech specialists, such as those at Sweetwater, helpful for identifying compatible and affordable podcasting solutions.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Cable length for connections may not be critical, but using 10ft TRS to XLR cables is common practice for this setup.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Users suggest exploring distortion pedals like Danelectro for achieving desired distortion effects without risking mixer damage.

great sound, great headroom, no USB

I don't have much to say about this but... It's a fantastic mixer and reproduces sound wonderfully. unfortunately it is NOT USB but with another dedicated sound card the input is no problem. My entire studio is wired into this thing and for the cost a great entry level mixer for producers who want to use external gear as well as keep everything tidy in one place.

gregory_grant

well it's a mixer...

I think that mixer is rather noisy it has 10 channels and phantom power, but i'am currently looking to replace this mixer really soon.
